Gears of War and Oblivion are the most common first choices. Both are outstanding games. Gears is relatively short at 10 hours for single player first playthrough. However, the multiplayer can last you countless hours like it did on me.
Oblivion is a long game. Could take you anywhere between 30-200 hours depending how you play. And there is an expansion called Shivering Isles out for it on the marketplace adding around 30 more hours to it.
In you're case Oblivion would be you're best choice. But Gears of War is definitely a great game as well.
Thanks everybody i will get Gears and Oblivion and yer ill go live with gears so much more hours of fun and Oblivion looks very nice tooGameCrook
Wise choices. I've spent over 200 hours on Gears with co-op online and multiplayer. I'm not a big fan of Oblivion; it's too slow paced in my opinion. But I seem to be one of the few who thinks so, so you probably won't go wrong by getting that game as well.

If you want a long lasting game and its your first 360 purchase you wont go wrong with Oblivion the game is very long plus theres a whole world to explore with side missions and quests.
But GOW really isnt a long game I completed it in about 3 days and the Multiplayer gets boring after a while and its very repetative with only a few guns and a annoying cover system. Its still a great game but its just wont last long.
My best gues is to go with Oblivion, unless you have played it already on PC.
If its possible to get 2-3 right away its good to have a varity.
1. Oblivion - Amazing and long lasting single player. Graphics look real great in HD especially
2. Gears Of War - Great Single player experience while it lasts, good Co-op play and some CRAZY online matches that should keep you busy.
3. Dead Rising - Some people may not agree with this but its differnt and somthing new. I had alot of laughs with this game and was impressed with the replay value and graphics
