The only one I played was Halo 3. and I think it's a good game but not a great game. My rating would be 8.9. Gears of War is waaaaaybetter.

I felt Halo 3 was a great game overall, with a lot of graphical features that get taken for granted, but all in all, the most fun I've ever had playing a game was Halo CE's Co-op. My uncle and I would spend hours just playing mission after mission. It was an incredible game. Halo 3, while adding more people and more options to Co-op, was just WAY too easy, and it just gets boring. The reason I feel Halo 2 is on the lowest rung of them all is because it departed from what Halo CE was, but did it in a way some fans didn't like. Halo 3 simply made the idea better, and then crossed it with some Halo CE, but still, it wasn't Halo CE, and it didn't feel as good.
The music for the first game, hell, everything about the first game was beautiful. It was one of those few perfect titles that will ever exist, like Chrono Trigger, or Gunstar Heroes. Also, the Pistol was ghey Very, very ghey It was a great tool of destruction, but unrealistic, even for Halo, and completely unbalanced. Makes me think of the Battle Rifle, and all the crap the Pistol passed on to it.
Anyway, Gears of War was an alright game, but really, I'm looking for a complete experience, and Gears just had a piss poor Campaign that was boring as hell, with fire-fights that become manotanous and annoying, and a Multiplayer that I couldn't get into because of lag. It wasn't that really bad lag, it was just the split second lag, and it was always there. My friend got upset while playing Halo 3 because he wasn't used to having to actually shoot appropriately at someone, instead of always a step ahead of them. Not just leading off, but literally leading off of your lead off. I laughed so hard. "You're mad cause the game... doesn't lag??" Gears multiplayer also seemed a bit too chance driven for me, where events would happen, like 2 shotgun guys running at each other, then both pausing to start shooting. You really don't know who will come out the victor, you just hope you will, because with my experience, for the most part you save aiming for weapons like the Hammer Burst, the Torque Bow, and the Sniper Rifle, but most other weapons you just fire from the hip so to speak, and it just didn't feel like I was really in control of what was going on, just that either my spread of bullets would hit them more, or vice versa, then one of us dies.
But yeah, overall I feel Halo CE was an incredible game, and though Halo 3 totes some really awesome features, the gameplay that was Halo CE will never fade away, and will never be trumped by a following Halo title.
