how come? I dont care about burn in considering i play for 3hrs at most in one sitting. The only thing i can think of is that a $1500 lcd will look better than a $1500 plasma - is this true?

I think you should go for LCD. I don't know why, but I have an LCD Samsung TV, and it's a great TV. Any one is good though.

There isn't going to be a huge difference in visuals. The main factor is that Plasma screens have more issues. I'd say get an LCD since, while there isn't a big chance the Plasma screen will do anything weird, the LCD won't do anything weird.

Anyone who says Plasma doesn't know what they're talking about. A Plasma can have some serious burn issues so definitely get an LCD.

get LCD its better for your eyes. PLasma is good too but the burn in is a downside. Just see which is the best deal for your money.

LCD, it's a newer technology and a lot more reliable when it comes to performance.

I've actually done quite a bit of research since I just purchased a new plasma TV a few months ago (58" Samsung 650 series)

Plasma's typically still have the clarity advantage over LCD's. They are also better with the color black. Meaning, black is actually black vs. a dark gray.

However, LCD's have come a long way in the past few years. Their picture is very comparable to that of a plasma. They also live longer than a plasma, but plasma TV's have made great strides in this area. My Samsung states it has a lifespan of 100,000 hours (or 11.4 years if you do the math).

The one thing you have to consider is the burn in, although they have included technology to pretty much take care of it (I have never tried to push the limits). If you leave a picture up motionless for a long time you'll notice it starting to burn in. However, newer plasmas come with 'anti-burn' technology, which may include pixel shifting, scrolling white screens, or something else to remove the burn. It works quite well and I have not had a problem yet.

So, I personally believe plasmas are still a superior picture when comparing to LCDs. If you want the best picture, go with a plasma, if you want almost as good a picture and don't want to worry about the burn-in, then go LCD.

However, I love my plasma and am very glad I picked it over a LCD :)

Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. Ive come down to about the same conclusion. The lcd i'm looking at now is SAMLN40A550, and the plasma is http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11292507&whse=BC&Ne=5000002+4000000&eCat=BC|79|2341|3314|74670&N=4018655%204294908733&Mo=1&No=1&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&hierPath=79*2341*3314*74670*&topnav= sorry couldnt find model number.

both relatively the same price, but considering i not to worried about burn in and the estimated life of this one is 100,000. i think this will be better.

same here i'm happy that i chose plasma over lcd.

i didn't know what to get either plasma or lcd but by doing some research on both, i found out that plasma offers a better picture quality. lcd are great too for gaming. i have a 22" widescreen lcd for pc gaming and 42" for xbox 360
