I have a 360 that is banned from Live. What is the actual part that is banned, ie, what do I need to replace for it to have a 'clean record'?

Thanks

If you were banned from Live, then there was a reason. Live with your mistake.

Anyone care to actually contribute by supplying an answer to the question being asked?

Not really. You were banned for a reason and I don't know which "part" of the 360 gets banned.

It depends on why you were banned. For bad behavior it may just be you gamertag or console. If it was for hardware modding your IP address is banned, and you're pretty much screwed.

I suppose I can actually give you some legit info since all the other posters here are dimwhits just trying to up their post count.

The motherboard serial gets banned, you need a new mobo. but encoded on the mobo is the drive serial so if you're buying a new mobo for your 360 (can't be banned ofc) you also need the drive serial or it will not work.

Mysticcal

Thank you. I assume to get this done, you would basically have to 'borrow' them from another 360, rendering it useless?

or buy the parts on ebay.

there's no point in fixing it, if you got banned for moding keep it or sell it, you can still play games offline.

buy a new one if you wanna play online, if you're burning games you're probably saved the cost of a new console in games by now

depends on the severity, if minor, jst your gamertag, if serious your IP and they can also ban the actual 360 box, but i dont know what they go on (serial number maybe?)

If you like commiting fraud. Sure. and I'm sure the buyer on ebay would LOVE to know about it being modded as well as banned. (Neg Feedback) Ebay doesnt allow users to sell modded consoles.

Gamestop often tests xboxes for banned so probably couldn't do that without getting caught

It's something with the system that's banned, IP and GT are fine.

Never did I hint at commiting fraud. Nor did I mention anything about Gamestop.

its not the ip, your live id stays intact believe it or not(dont understand why these dont get banned as well) every xbox has a special number built into the system which uniquley id's every xbox on xbox live everytime you connect. its not as simple as just swapping parts out. this number if your clever enough can be swapped out but the downside is that its completly pointless as to swap it out you need either a broken 360 of the same sku. or one thats never ever going to go online. and you can change the id of the system to one thats not banned and it will go back on live. this is pretty hard to do, and is much easier to buy a new system and sell your old on. you cant really just change a few things and expect to get back online, they have made so its not feasible to fix, its not cost effective. you might as well buy a new console. do you really think microsoft hadnt thought of this for people getting banned systems online, its a pointless exercise give up

your ip does not get banned. in fact the same day you get banned you could plug in another console and get online with the same ip. its the secret unique id number inside the console that gets banned.

you just have to replace the console part of it and you then have a clean record again.

Discussion of "what part is banned" is very close to "how can I cirumvent the ban", which is illegal.
