Not really i bought it becaus it had a few games i wanted and i got fed up of waiting to get next gen gaming so only really had one choice since the ps3 got delayed.
GEARS OF WAR IS OVERRATED AND DOES NOT AND WILL NEVER LIVE UP TO ALL ITS HYPE!!! NOBODY KNOWS WTF THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT ANYMORE WHEN THEY SAY GEARS OF WAR IS THAT AMAZING OF A GAME TO PLAY!!!
Gears definitely influenced my decision in buying a 360, but now I kind of regret buying Gears. I rarely play it and when I do, it's hard to get into and just isn't very fun.
I bought my 360 way before gears came out (launch day) just because I thought it was going to be the better of the two powerhouse systems. So far I would like to believe that my thought was correct. Gears is a fun game, at first, but after you beat it on insane I feel that it doesn't really have much replay value. I wouldn't agree that gears is second to Halo because it just doesn't have the staying power. If there was one game that helped me make a decision it was Oblivion, which still might be my fav game to play for the 360
I bought mine for Mass Effect even thought it's not out yet. I didn't want GOW but it came with my X360 so I played it and got hooked on it after firing the first shot. It's a great game.

Honestly, I was saving for an alienware PC but just as soon as I saw the limited edition of gears in best buy I instantly bought a 360, just for the cool gears of war box.
Best decision I've ever done.......................I think:)
i didn't buy it for gears... i bought it because my original xbox was one of the best purchases i've ever made. the day i got my 360 though, i traded in my original xbox for gears... after playing gears for about 30 seconds i realized how much i'm going to love my 360, and i'm still playing it nonstop, because no other game has come close to it yet in my opinion. (i'll be picking up oblivion when i graduate in may, because i loved morrowind, and it sounds like it could give gears a run for its money.)
i don't think you can buy a system for one game... you buy it for the future games. you're most likely going to buy more than 10 games in a generation (some of us a lot more than that), so you can't base your purchase on one game.
