I don't think that they should take them away, because they have actually given me a reason to play some games through more than once. I have in the past usually played through a campaign once and never touched it again on harder difficulties. Gears and C&C3.
Plus they are not really hurting anyone. If you get to hyped up for the points, then you totally lost the reason why we play games. Maybe you should just play the game for what they are, and if you can't try and seperate the experience from the points, maybe you should find a different console.
They should definately not take them away. They are a brilliant idea, so long as you don't go whoring (which ruins the games in my opinion). It makes it so you have things to work towards, even after you beat it. Take shadowrun for an example, I think without achievements, it would become boring fast, but since you have something to work towards, it keeps you interested longer. So I think if you play the games, go for the achievements, but not play games JUST for achievements, I find that a little wierd.

I bought king kong because there was few games when the 360 released, not because some points.I just surpassed the 10,000 mark for achievement points and am quit disappointed. I spent all that time being an achievment point whore and just thought, "What do I have left to play for now?". I miss the days where I played video games for the sheer fun of it, not for points on a profile. I think they should do away with them, otherwise I'll probably end up being a bigger whore and going for the 100,000 mark, which in reality will never happen. Just take them away from me......please...they're like drugs! Who else wants them taken away?jt222_us
I dont like them either but I really dont care for them since I never really try for the acheivements. They just tend to happen since I am playing the game. But I do like playing a game like NBA2k7 and playing my friend and at the end after I gave him a beat down and I get a acheivement just to rub it in.
Oh yeah you can shut the message off so you dont have to worry about acheivement and your score will just go up without you knowing.
I like the idea of achievement points but a problem for me is when people online begin playing only for points. For example, getting 100 kills with a specific weapon in Gears ruined the multiplayer experience for me. Not because I was after them, but because other people only cared about getting the achievements and nothing else. I'd rather play to have fun, not to boost my gamerscore. If I get some points along the way even better. I will admit that I have gone out of my way to get achievements in certain games, but never at the expense of another person's enjoyment.
I love acheivements. Not so much for the point value, but to confirm that I've beaten a certain level on a higher difficulty than a friend, or that I've won a certain amount of matches.
For me, it's purely a "bragging report" for me and my friends. I never rent/buy games to increase the score though - that's just dumb.
Remember, smack-talking among friends is the best part of gaming (well, not really).
