That is certainly true, but this still doesn't mean you have to know him. It's not like he's a literary genius or something.

"Wherefore art thou Romeo" should be
"Does anyone know where I could find Romeo at this current time?"
OH MY GOD, HOW DARE YOU! lol
he is well known, I love his books, well the books he actually wrote. don't like the new stuff that just has his name on it so I don't even bother with them, you would probably know who Stephen King is before knowing who Tom Clancy is.

 The thread is now officially derailed. To answer the question, he's a well-known author in the military thriller genre. Typically, he's known for his technical know-how regarding miltiary technology and organization and has a political understanding that helps him create a could-happen-tomorrow fiction.
His books have been made into movies like The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and Sum of All Fears. His name and body of fiction have become a franchise that even spans into gaming like Kardinal of the Kremlin and Rainbow Six with spin-offs such as ruthless.com, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell.
I think the last book he actually wrote was Teeth of the Tiger, but most of the time nowadays, ghost-writers pen series that bear his franchise name...ie PowerPlays and NetForce.
[QUOTE="Palantas"]fantastic movie, i do love a good sean connery accentEver see Hunt for Red October?
chaoscougar1

fantastic movie, i do love a good sean connery accent lol, how does he say "take a seat?" anyway, tom clancy is an author and (correct me if i'm wrong) a director he usually does stuff with war, there are splinter cell books too if you like the gameI don't care who's dad doesn't know Tom Clancy is. You must be living quite far away from libraries or bookstores not to know who Tom Clancy is.
And I always wonder - when you're playing a dozen games with the name of the same dude on the top of it, don't you ever get a LITTLE curious to look it up?

I encourage anyone to pick up any of his non-fiction. So far, I've read Carrier and Every Man a Tiger. Reading Shadow Warrior. Very interesting look into the inner workings of the military and its organization.
