its all a scheme. 120 points seems like fake money, and you sometimes you forget that that 120 points really is $1.50 I've purchased probably 5 bucks or so on a theme and gamerpix... pretty stupid. if the gamerpictures said "$1.00" insted of "80 points" and if i didnt have 1600 points already on my account, i wouldn't buy them. MS is good with stuff like this haha
The only problem i have with it is the way $1 = 80 MS points. I bought a song off of the Zune Marketplace for 79 MS points ($.99) and now I have a useless single point left over. The best thing they could do while keeping the point system is allow people to purchase items individually by credit card rather than requiring the purchase of a predetermined amount of points.
Microsoft really screws us over with these points, but hey, how else are we going to play some of these great arcade games? You've just gotta live with it.
I've only bought a couple of Map packs on Live. I will never spend money for gamer pics or character costumes. This should be free, as well as themes. Did they forget we already pay 55 bucks a year for the privilege of playing their games online??? Sometimes I really hate capitolism. As for thier monopoly money scheme for points, that needs to go.

I am not so much bothered by the prices because the market will dictate where they will eventually rest in the long run -- i.e. no one buys the overpriced gamer pics then the price will change if they want to sell more. What bothers me is the whole concept of MS points. I don't want to be insulted on the marketing scam of it all. Refer to it in the montetary term of the region. Just lay it out how it really is and stop playing games (no pun intended).
I have not found $20 worth of stuff i have wanted to buy for the games i have so i have never bought points. Saints Row had a couple of dlc's i wanted but that didn't amount to jusitfy spending $20 when the dlc's was about $10.

okay, for those of you that are complaining about the MS points AND the gamerscore, I have an easy solution. Don't buy MS points if you think they're too expensive. if you don't like Live and think it's a rip, then don't subscribe to it and play either single player or with your friends. if you don't like the downloadable content, then don't download it.Â

it's not really a rip off... 20 bucks for 1600 points. theres downloadable games that range from 400 to 1600 points. Theres map packs, and things that add on to games(like expansions, new items, etc.). Some of those are even free! Then theres always free trailers, demos, themes and gamerpics available. Theres also themes and pics you can pay for...but it's simple, don't want them, don't buy em. It's just a way for the company to make a few extra bucks off some fans that enjoy the art. I bought an alan wake one, and I like it, it looks pretty cool. and I was OBSESSED with dead rising, so I bought a theme. I can also rent movies for like 400 or so points, which is great. I think everything works out good so far.

What is so hard for you to understand, all we want is a straightforward pricing system...ie 1 point = $.01. That's it, nothing more complicated then that. Also the ability to pay only for what you are buying. If something costs 800 points, then allow us to pay 800 points for it, not have to buy 1000 points, or what every the minimum is, and have points left over we may not use. As for charging for gamer pics and themes, I guess you could argue this is where the can generate a bit more income, but come one, still charging full price for Kameo and PD Zero content over a year after they were released? Pretty soon the content is going to cost more then the game!

I see nothing wrong with the points. Show and movie prices are decent, game companies decide on how much they want their content to costs, XBLA arcade games are priced fine and have demos of everything. Themes and gamerpics are overpriced but, so what, they are not really important.
Only things I ever spent Microsoft Points on were Geometry Wars and 20 MS Points on a CoD2 pic. Now TWENTY MS points is actually resonable. That was before the game developers knew how much they could charge for ONE picture that no one looks at.

Actually, they did change- for the worse. I live in canada and points cards used to be 19.99$ for 1250points card and 39.99 for 2500ponts card. Now its 29.99 for a 1400 and and 39.99 for a 2800. An extra ten bucks gets you 150pts? I realize on the bigger points card you get an extra 300pts. for the same amount of money but c'mon, seriously, ten bucks for 150pts is unbeleivable. I know people slag Wii VC prices as a ripoff but lemme lay it down for you. The most expensive Wii VC games are N64 games, priced at 1000 pts (2000pt. card is 24.99CDN) and unless your'e grabbing paperboy or some crap decent XBLA games are 800pts.= over half of 29.99$... Hmmm whats the bigger ripoff. VC NES games @ 500 pts are cheaper than the 400pt XBLA downloads and the VC library owns the XBLA in the naughty places so next time you rip on the VC, know M$ is ripping on you.

I do like the idea personally, have bought a few XBLA titles and a bunch of VC titles, the only game downloads I have were for Gears of War and were free but I'd be willing to pay an appropriate price for content that is worthwhile, I just think we should be able to upload pic's instead of paying for picture packs and themes.
All arcade games are a rip off in my opinion. They don't even last you a day, but yet they are so expensive. I will most likely never get an arcade game. I haven't heard of any good ones coming up.

Carefull if you have used a creditcard to obtain M$ points, a guy at my work's little brother logged in to his profile to play games and apparently bought like fifty bucks worth of points so he bought a bunch of XBLA games, he bought UMKIII/StreetFighterII/Alien Hominid/TMNT but still what a pissoff. If you have siblings/spouse that have access to your consoles be warned.
Oh ya, BTW! I buy my points with my debit card. , where I can get them is lower denominations and not have to waste time entering codes like I do when I want Wii points (which you DO have to buy in unreasonably large denominations). The gamerpics are certainly a rip, but buying them is completely optional. If no one bought them, they'd have to reevaluate their business model. But, unfortunately, a sucker is born every minute (thanks, PT) and the gamerpics sell relatively well. As far as games being 1200 points, the only games I can think of immediately with this pricing are Bankshot Billiards and Lumines. The billiards game is awful, but Lumines is definitely worth the $15 (plus a few more bucks for add-ons). I hate getting my games in pieces as much as the next guy, but Lumines Live -- in it's completed status -- is most of Lumines for the PSP and most of Lumines II for the PSP in one game. Each of these sells for $20 on PSP, so you essentially get two games for the price of one. I stand by the pricing of that game, as much as I don't stand by the execution of it -- but MS has rectified this problem with a larger download size for XBLA games.
The points price are a bit high. I review most of the arcade titles so the points are free. I bought 8000 points for $40 on Ebay that was the cheapest I ever paid. The seller was hard up for cash. Ebay seems the cheapest for points if you look right. But if you don't want to pay for points don't.
I think MS points are okay as far as value for money, but far more convoluted than they need to be. I'm puzzled as to their existence- aren't normal National currencies not good enough for MS? Or are they all about making their own 'money'?
