You dont get a key in the box, you download the beta through Crackdown's downloads menu in the game.Â
Crackdown is a great game in itself - in fact I think playing Crackdown will have spoilt GTA IV for me. Who wants to drive crappy old cars round when you can leap from building to building!Â
It's not lame, it's good marketing. And yes, I bought Crackdown for Crackdown, the beta was just a bonus.monco59

Yeah I would have purchased the game if it didn't have the beta, but I would have bought it used. Of course if I had known that there was no key and you needed the disk I could have bought it used anyway but oh well.
It's not the most revolutionary or groundbreaking game on the 360, but its good for a quick fix or stress relief. Theres nothing better than going MADDOG on a crowd with a rocket launcher and then watching the fireworks.

I totally agree! Do you know how pitiful we're going to feel when we can't jump 50 feet in the air? Or simply punch cars out of the way? Or lift 18-wheelers over our heads? I'm not saying Crackdown is the greatest game ever or anything (although I personally love it). But, the GTA IV team has their work cut out for them to make the sandbox gameplay this fun. But, I've got faith in them.
Crackdown was a lot of fun and a worthy purchase that took up MANY hours of my time. In fact, I'd be surprised if I didn't spend some 30 hours with it, and the DLC hasn't even come yet.
Honestly, I wanted the game and the H3 beta just made the purchase even more justified for me. So, to answer your question, yes I would've purchased it regardless.

Good marketing my foot, its dirty marketing. Its immoral!Â
Immoral? How do you figure that. What It is good marketing. If you have a product that will only appeal to a few people you do something to get those numbers up. If you feel you have a product that people won't buy put something else in it. It's the same reason people buy the collectors edition of games. They feel they are getting something extra. It's not like you are having to buy a horrible game and if you want to play the beta that bad there is no reason to complain....there were other opportunities to get into the beta.thats so lame how they used halo to drive their salesxRandyx
I think it was less about driving sales and more about keeping people from selling the game back soon after buying it. Most intelligent people wouldn't buy a game for a beta. The big deal is to keep new games out of the used game bin so that people will be forced to buy new copies.Â
Anyways, I bought Crackdown even after getting into the beta through the rule of 3.
It's brilliant marketing, but I would have bought the game regardless as I'm not a Halo fan.Inapprope
