http://gear.ign.com/articles/103/1038663p1.html

So after reading this article, I have a few things to say regarding Blu-Ray and consumers in general. I work at my local Hollywood Video and most people don't know what Blu-Ray is. 1) They'll grab the BR copy of the movie, thinking it will work on their DVD player. 2) Most of them don't even own HDTV or a PS3 to fully enjoy a BR.

Back on topic. A BR drive wouldn't make sense for a X360 because it would most likely run you close to $300. For that price you can get you a PS3. Again cost is another important factor. Most customers don't know that they're X360 can output HD graphics, and they play their system on SDTV. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but from what I've seen at my job..many people would even notice this. What do you guys think?

I never did, and never will think Blu Ray is that much better than DVD. Many people have tried to convince me it's better quality than DVD, and although there is a slight difference, Blu Ray is definitley not worth the extra money it costs. M$ does not need Blu Ray and they will be just fine with DVD. Blu Ray is not going to be the future, just doesn't add anything different from what DVD does.

This news is a good thing because if they did have a Blu Ray add on for the Xbox 360, it would only be for movies. So far all the other systems, PC and the Wii are doing fine without Blu Ray. So far, only heavily funded exclusive Sony games takes advantage of Blu Ray, while most multiplats are better on the Xbox 360, that's not using Blu Ray. Blu Ray is not needed for the other consoles this gen, that's for sure, but next gen anything can happen.

That's the way I feel...newer DVD's upconverted look just as good as Blu-ray and about $15 less.I know some video snobs say they don't on larger HDTVS but I have a 50" and I really can't tell the difference.

Unless the 360 starts supporting Blu-ray games I have no real interest in them adding a player. I doubt that will happen until the next Xbox. They could have added HD-DVD drives and made games on the HD-DVD discs, but chose not to.

other reason why blue ray never come to xbox is about year ago. president of Microsoft said they believe blue ray is good for movies but not for gaming. they are looking into other tech for gaming.

blu ray players are a lot cheaper now. a little over a $100. 360's do not need that feature at this point continue there success. id rather they concentrate on making the console more reliable :P

I agree with other about blu-ray vs. dvd to an extent. I think it really depends on the release. I also just bought the blu-ray edition of transformers 2 for $19.99. The 2 disc special edition dvd is the same price. I think blu-ray will continue to come down in price (it started at $40). You can't beat blu-rays sound or video. I think people just are scared of the price. All in all xbox doesn't need it, if they can instantly stream 1080p movies.

I'm not going to lie and say that there isn't a big difference in quality between bluray and DVD, but still the 360 is a game console, it doesn't need to have a ton of add ons to make it replace every device in your home. What next, a blender add on, a microwave? All it needs is the ability to play videogames, if I want to watch bluray's I'll get a bluray player.

I could care less if Blue ray comes to the Xbox 360 . . . as of right now, there is no need for Blue ray on the 360 . . . sure, Blue ray movies would be nice, but DVD's are fine for right now and from what I can tell, the 360 does a decent job upscaling DVD's; I don't see the point of having a Blue ray add-on, much like I never seen the point of having an HD-DVD add-on . . .

it pointless for MS to make a blu-ray drive now consideringsome blu-ray players are relatively cheap now. I'm sure MS won't use blu-ray for gaming on the 360 at this point too. so i agree that blu-ray will never come to the 360

So what if PS3 has it, it stilll didn't make me buy one. In a few years blu-ray will be modded or forgotten, i predict blu-ray 2 will be made for the next gen consoles in which microsoft can buy a partnership.

I can tell you a lot of my friends have opted for the PS3 over the 360 simply because of the Blu-ray option. I do think that, on the surface at least, it makes the PS3 a very attractive option for people who are not hardcore gamers passionate about Microsoft exclusives like Gears, PGR, Halo, etc. For the many casual gamers out there not wowed by Wii and more interested in multi-platform sports games than shooters, Blu-ray does tip the scale in favor of PS3.

That said, I own a 360 and wouldn't make the switch myself. However, I do think a $100 Blu-ray add-on, while unlikely, would make a smart addition to the Xbox 360. Package it with the system and watch Christmas sales spike.

Blu-ray is okay... so long as you have a $300+ HDTV (at least 32"), a $100+ Blu-ray player or $300 PlayStation 3, a $300+ sound system, and still have enough for a roof over your head.

I'll just say that without those key elements, there is no point.

It would just be like buying a $30 DVD.

All the benefits that come with an uncompressed Blu-ray movie won't amount to anything if you can't see or hear the difference.

If you happen to have all of these, good for you! But could care less. An HDTV and an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 are all I need to have fun.

blu-ray is awesome just not worth the price, regarding your comment on blu-ray being slow they have blu ray drives that are faster then dvd drives. Also what is there to load in a movie? ps3 solved this problem, installs or make ps3 lead platform which leads to no installs and faster load times for xbox users.
