I think Killing Floor on the PC is much freakier than left 4 dead and way more fun.. zombies can be invisible and it has a more gritty tone to it.. I like the thrill on those kinda games.

Heh, not a fan of Red Dead DLC?

Anyways, I like zombies in anything. They're stupid, mean and evil: the perfect villan. I could even enjoy the 28 Days Later mod for Oblivion, or the zombie mod servers in Team Fortress 2, or how about the zombie mod made for Crysis? Zombies just go so well with anything, I guess.

I think Treyarch did a good job making Nazi Zombies for Call of Duty: World at War. They put you in a survival zombie game mode, but they still put story into it. Which is a very good job to make the players understand why there in the situation they are in, and also to keep them entertained. I for one and many others, love Nazi Zombies, and if Treyarch could bring some kind of game mode like this into Call of Duty: Black Ops, that would be great for zombie genre lovers. That's why 'I' love

Zombies.. what can I say.. the whole world went and died... then got up and wanted to eat your flesh.. things might be alright as long as you save enough bullets to make it to some safe haven that may or may not exist... what isn't cool about that? But I get it.. things get played out... especially when the internet is involved.. ten years ago my zombie movie collection was looked at with disgust but now its looked at like oh wow cool you like zombies too... whatever they rule.

There is no "Zombie" genre. I think games involving zombies generally get praised because they are good at their core. Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 both had great core gameplay and multiplayer, Dead Rising had great core gameplay as well, and so on. It's more of a coincidence that the zombies are there. These developers make their games and hope for them to thrive because of what lies at their core and their mechanics, and then have zombies play a major role to up the atmosphere, mood or feeling of the game.

Well, I think it's that there were a lot of great zombie movies out when we were younger, we all wanted to kill a bunch of zombies. But personally, even with the success of Left 4 Dead, I don't believe any developer has the done the genre any justice. If *I* were to make a zombie game, I'd know exactly how to make it. Being a fan of the genre myself, I know what would make it a success. But hey, we all have our dreams. I just wish one developer would avoid certain limitations in their mind and go all out to make the perfect zombie game. :)

I dunno i guess people think killing zombies is funny. Also you get much better animations like you can shoot a zombies legs off and it crawls after you or shoot its arms off and it'll keep on running, which you just cant do in other games. They are also more 'fun' and less serious, you can mess around and still complete the game. For example left 4 dead 2 co-op you can throw bile at each other and laugh at your friend as they get mauled by a hunter and still reach the checkpoint whereas in cod WaW co-op if you throw a grenade at someone or let them die you have to restart and it gets frustrating. Overall zombie games take a less serious tone and is just all out gore filled fun. Most people buy games like L4D to play occasionally when they are bored or want to mess around with friends.

I think people enjoy the fact that zombies are just cannon fodder, something you can just blast away with no effort and as typical of games with zombies in it, there appears to be a never ending supply. No game can satiate peoples blood lust like a zombie game lol.

I think Dead Rising was a great game, much better than L4D. People always talk about the perfect zombie game and generally the idea is just a zombie as a game, and Dead Rising has come the closest to that. It had all the basic staples, *Spoiler Warning if you haven't played Dead Rising*

The government conspiracy and cover up, people doing dumb things to get themselves killed, people cracking under the pressure of the situation, anytown USA being the starting point of the outbreak, the everyman not trying to save the day but save himself and a few other people, using whatever you can to defend yourself, Capcom simply took a more satirical approach to the subject. I mean the almost got sued because it was so much like Dawn of the Dead.

Then there is the sort of L4D approach, but in an open world, where your goal is to escape, maybe saving people and stuff like that. That one is also a pretty popular "perfect zombie game idea"

There's no such thing as a zombie genre.

Back on topic: I like horror survival games and zombies fit perfectly in such a genre.

EDIT: Now that I think about it my favourite Horror survival game is Silent Hill which has no zombies on it but wth.

I loved the concept of Dead Rising, but it was so limited. The speed of everything was just so slow. That and I wish there would be an open world zombie game with a HUGE map(think Fallout 3).

lol I don't think I ever heard anyone call Dead Rising limited. That is probably the one word that can't be used to describe it. But I guess if your trying to compare it to Fallout 3 or something I guess you could, but keep in mind its not an open world nor a sandbox game. And yeah like I said, the open world zombie game is a common idea for the perfect zombie game. There was suppose to have been one, but It had to have been canceled by now.

i also love the resident evil series for their own spin on zombies. I prefer the old school and to me "real" zombies of slow moving, cannibalistic, mindless zombies. I hate that all of a sudden zombies have super speed and strength it just makes no sense to me.

I'm not comparing the two. I just think the speed that everything happens in is super slow. And but not being able to move around as well as I wanted to, I felt the game was limited. That and an open world zombie game would be the bees knees. ;)

Slow, stupid, clumsy, wihtout firepower they make an easy target.

Probably developers like them as well, since they usually aren't an example of next gen AI :).

I think the reason why we love them is because they are so easy to kill, they just fight forward while a normal human enemy takes cover or do many maneuvers besides i think you don't feel so good blasting a human head as much as a zombified human head.

i dunno, I personally like shooting zombies in games like Resident Evil 1 and 2. Also I thought Left4dead was pretty cool, but not great enough where I bought it. dead rising is a game i want to like, but the save feature is SO bad that I just get mad and give up every time I play it. I am positive I'll never finish that one. but Zombie movies are awesome. Check out the movie called "Fido" on netflix, now thats funny stuff. and movies like "Dawn of the Dead", "Land of the Dead", "Night of the Living Dead" are awesome. Resident Evil the movie is ok, but the game was better.

but I do see your point about the DLC. Why should we have to pay extra $$$$ to shoot zombies in a game? Why cant they just include that in the store purchased disc? Extra maps for a game like CODMW2 makes sense, but a Zombie mode in a game that has nothing to do with zombies? thats just cashing in on their popularity, and I wont waste $ on anything like that.

oh and on a side note, there's a Zombie killing game in Saints Row2. It's just wave after wave, but still entertaining for a few minutes.

Zombies are one of the few AI that they can get right also it one of the few "Classic" monster that is good in games. Vampires and werewolves have too many rules about them.

Zombie can really be taken far more literal then just being one genre you see take the two zombie games that were made to be just that from the start; Deadrising and left 4 dead.

Really Deadrising is the only zombie game of those two, zombies don't run zombies are slow and don't think, they are just mindless and only as strong as the person that was once living but with out the limits of pain and body stress. Now left for dead is a virus game its more driven by the fact that the people attacking are not feeling pain are mindless and overly powerful, I really don't think they are dead just overcome with a virus that makes them lifeless (if that makes sense XD) much like it was made to make people uprise against there government or to just create a riotous panic amongst people of a country that was going to be overtaken by what ever government planted the virus.

Being a resident Evil fan from the first snippet of news I read about it this is where I get most of my theory. The first resident Evil is about a genetic experiment gone wrong the outcome being dead humans that become zombies (the staff) and the mutated experiments that are alive (Dogs, hunters, Neptune, plant42) and animals that were effected passively (insects, arachnids, birds, adders). The ones that move fast are the ones kept alive with the virus mutating them, while the ones exposed to the virus incorrectly and died became slow moving zombies. Even still the passively effected animals that came to be from consuming the metabolized virus in a corpse had adverse outcomes but still kept them alive considering a zombie or dead bird could not fly.

Getting to the point XD, I think the infected craze is mainly because people enjoy blowing away hundreds of target at once and the feeling of being powerful enough to take on many at once, zombies and infected make becoming powerful easy.

I myself like to blast away at zombies but only if it has a decent storyline i dont want to just have mindless fun. I think that resident evil really has done a great job of creating a world for the genre. Umbrella corp is definately someone we can agree to hate and try to destroy. The left for dead series while entertaining isn't exactly story driven. However what it lacks in story it does make up for with action and gameplay. Hordes of very fast and aggresive zombies running at you at full speed spewing vomit all over. It is very good fun to play with a group of friends. A game with zombies i couldnt really get into was dead rising the zombies were very slow and lifeless and the setting was kind of dull and played out. I never really beat the game but i never really wanted to play more than 1 hour. While other games like read dead redemption seem to just be jumping on the cash grab bandwagon with a DLC where you can pay 10 dollars to have zombies in your game. Dont get me wrong i do love me some zombies but some games just fall short.

What are some of your favorite zombie killing moments in gaming? Why was the game so fun to you? Should every game be given DLC just to change your gameplay such as adding zombies, aliens, monsters?

Asa kid I enjoyed watching zombies movies and it was a plus when they started to make good games revolving around zombies.

I'm a big fan of L4D series. I love the gameplay, atmosphere, and most of all I enjoy playing the game with my buddies.
