It's cheaper and easier than buying surround sound. I have a high quality 7,1 surround sound in my house, but my TB X41s pick up small minute sounds in the environment better, therebye deepening the experience on certain games.

You can listen to it at higher volumes so you don't disturb others in your house. That and headsets tend to provide better sound quality than the TV itself. They also help isolate the audio and block out everything else.

I have a wife and four year old son. Instead of making noise at night and interrupting them while they're sleeping... it makes sense to use a headset. A quote from you makes me shake my head -- "This is the only thing I can accept". Who are you?

umm

lets see

My headset sound sounds better then my T.v

the voice chat is built in and even go up with the volume of the game. So one isn't unbalanced and you can hear both always

since the voice chat is built in you get voice and gameplay through both of your ears vs where i use have a old school mic where voice chat came through one ear and the other is the t.v... that way really sucks

you can hear things from the direction it's coming from whole lot better then a t.v ever be able to... OOO was you trying sneak up on me?

My $10 Sennheiser headphones block out almost all outside interference and sound better than the garbage coming from my sony barvia and cheap speaker bar. No expensive surround sound system and no clutter :) I can't believe all the sounds and depth I have been missing for many years and these are just cheapies, sad.

I use a headset firstly so I don't disturb my neighbours late at night, and secondly because when playing some games online, for example Black Ops, it's beneficial to be able to hear sound effects like footsteps/someone reloading etc. I do hope my explanations are worthy of your acceptance.

I just recently got into the headset world with a pair of Trittons bought so I could game at night with a little volume. Immediately I was impressed with the amount of sound detail I was missing out on. Headsets are just great all around for netflix watching and gaming late at night, or in the day when your little one is taking a nap.

I use turtle beaches and I can hear your foot steps and what direction the gun shots are coming from. On a side note if your turtle beaches make a "farting" noise turn your controller vibration off. That will fix the problem.

Like most others, my girlfriend would prefer to not hear what I'm doing in a game. It's just polite.

If you have turtle beaches, astros, or other gaming headsets,

you can hear whats going on significantly better

for example, i have turtle beaches and i am able to hear you reload your weapon or walk when youre close enough to me

as an added convenience, you can play with your tv on mute since the sounds are coming directly from the xbox

You guys say it's better than a tv but why waste 50 bucks and up when you can just turn up your volume on your tv you already own uless you will disturb others like I previously stated. I turn my tv to 13 and it's giving me enough souns to play, turn it up to16 and over and I can hear everything. So what's the point of buying a headset if you don't need it.

Did you not read any of the replies on the last page? Integrated television speakers are not as good as quality headphones even if the tv is on "high". Turning the volume down so you don't disturb others makes it so that you can hardly hear what's going on. Great audio can make a difference and people want to fully immerse themselves in the game. I personally don't own a good pair of headphones/mic but I'm looking to purchase one. They may not need it, but it certainly makes gaming more enjoyable, and that's what counts.

I recently bought a headset, maybe like a month ago. And my gaming experience has definitely changed. First off, its not a waste of money if the consumer wants to get it, who are you to judge?Secondly, I hear stuff in-game that I never even knew were there. The game just sounds so much clearer when coming through speakers right near your ear. The game is smoother and the experience is way more vivid and realistic. I don't regret my purchase and I recommend them to everyone.

I thought the same thing but you really don't get all the sound from playing it directly through a tv...maybe with surround sound and amplified speakers but not just a stand-alone television.

And of course it allows you to play without desturbing others.

I live in an NYC apartment, so I use them primarily not to disturb my neighbors.

Even then, I can get really good 3D directional sound from my Turtle Beach headset. If I want to really be into a game, I go for those. In terms of communications, I can get the voice comms through both ears.

So you don't disturb other people and so you get better- wait that's already been said ten times. I think it's time for this topic to die.

OP doesn't understand what HD surround sound is. Oh and the turtle beaches have an option to turn down or off just the voice chaters if you don't like hearing people talk.

I use headsets so I can be more aware of what's going on around me in game. Plus, when I'm playing online, they help me communicate with teammates. Can't have the television turned all the way up all the time.

Well if you invest in a good pair you will get better than traditional 5.1 from your TV. I had a pair like these i gave $170 for, but after a while it just gets old keeping them on my head when i can just use the 5.1 on my TV. I ended up selling them and just buying a wireless headset for chat.

I couldn't imaging spending THAT much on a headset.

$60 seemed like enough to me and I can't imagine it getting any better
