why do people think splitscreen will always make a game better?

im not trying to bash anyone, but i constantly see on the forums how some people always say think like "Man I hope this game has split screen, if it does it will be the best game ever" Splitscreen doesnt always make a game better, I would honestly prefer online multiplayer or online co-op compared to splitscreen

More features are never a bad thing in a game, as long as the game is already good. And some good local play is definately nice to have if youy don't want to go online wiht your friend who is new to a game.

I like to have the option to do what i want in a game.

So I dont have friends? im pretty sure I hung out and played games at my friend house the other day (not split screen.) so your saying that since I dont like split screen I have no friends? thats a pretty narrow minded way of thinking, Like i said im not trying to bash. sometimes even multiplayer doesnt even make a Game good, im just asking a general question

With splitscreen you can actually have friends over to play and joke around with.To me, online co-op isn't even a close substitute to it. With that, each of your friends needs their own 360, Live subscription, and each have to own their own copy of the game.

Not all games need splitscreen though, and I know some probably wouldn't handle it very well technically, but that doesn't meanit's not a lot of fun.

Ok maybe it will not always make it better. But I dont see how it can make it worse, and that is what I kind of felt you were implying.

Because it can be more fun to play with someone than being alone and you can bring friends over to play.

I would have bought a lot more games if they had splitscreen. Games like Shadowrun and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars I thought looked good but passed on because they lacked split screen. Unreal Tournament 3 and Perfect Dark Zero have it right where you have bots and splitscreen.

haha, good responce. and i agree.

I like splitscreen so I can play with my friends at my house but online co-op is just as good. Most of my friends have 360s with live so i'm kinda ok with not having local splitscreen. If they have online co-op though they should have splitscreen to I think.

Beat me to it. Some people might overstate the importance of a given game having splitscreen, but being able to play splitscreen is never a detriment. The more options, the better.

If you cant system link a system and have battles...OR...If a game has no splitscreen "IF THE GAME IS MULTIPLAYER"...Then the game is lacking the very thing gaming is about..."togetherness" "friends" "having fun with others" "people skills" ect ect.

Online has bord me to death now. I have LIVE and dont even use it. Im cancelling my LIVE as of this August when its up. Its lame and boring for me now and honestly I feel online "to an extent" has ruined gaming.

Splitscreen is amazing. You obviously weren't around for the goldeneye/perfect dark era of things. Playing with 3 friends on a t.v is often a lot of fun...try it sometime.

Yeah, sometimes you just want to play on the same screen or maybe some of your buddies don't have a 360 so you can't play with them online so you have to do it split-screen. Like someone else said, it's never bad when a game has more features/options.

It's so you can play with your friends or siblings, in the same room.

im not a huge fan of splitscreen but i have to admit that playing splitscreen can be really fun. games like L4D, GRAW2(4 ppl) n Halo3.

Uhm I hate split screen although I love to beat the hell out of my brother in certain games from PS1 & PS2 it just doesn't work. You have a hard time seeing what's really going on. The sports games & fighting games are a lot better without split screen they don't mess with your line of vision.

i rarely hear this, but its a reasonably complaint. I hate the 360 splitscreens. Most of them atleast. Look at COD....why did they have to do that? Its not only splitscreen, so its small enough, but they have to make it have a big stupid margin on the side which is pointlessly making it even harder to see.

Splitscreen came about because they couldn't get people online to play. I'd much rather have online play than splitscreen. To all the people saying how its great to have your mates round to play on one console. Well that's only true if your mates are of similar ability. If you keep kicking their ass they soon get fed up of it. Play online with matchmaking and you get put with people of a more similar ability or can make friends with others of similar ability.Avenger1324

How did splitscreen come about because they couldn't get people online to play with? This is like saying bows and arrows and swords came about because they couldn't make guns yet. Splitscreen play was created before people were every playing on the internet, they didn't make it as a substitute for online play.

Its a great place to chill with buds. I honestly think its better to enjoy playing games with friends on the couch drinking beer and laughing together at the same time on the same couch.To me its what makes 20 %for me to get the game. I know i lovelocal games.

all i have to say is fable 2 it had split screen but it killed people inside when they played it(on splitscreen fun game alone though)

I'm pretty sure no one ever said they'd prefer to have split screen over online. It's just that they'd like to have split screen included and it is possible to have both. Halo 3, Left 4 Dead and the Gears series can testify. Not supporting it is kind of a step back anyway. I mean it's kinda sad to see that some modern games don't support a feature games ten years ago could.

In any case, I don't see how a game could benefit from the lack of split screen support.

Although it doesn't have to be in all the game I still think it should be in most online multiplayer games. Most people want split-screen because it is better to play with your friend sitting next to you then talking into a mic.

So true!! The best halo 3 moments i've had have been playing multi-team matchmaking with a friend on the same tv. If you have a big enough tv is not a problem.

Whether or not a game has split-screen is a deciding factor for me when it comes to buying a game because my g/f plays with me. I didn't like how COD:WAW doesn't allow you to use the split-screen feature across Xbox Live. It makes no sense to have it one way or the other unlike Gears and Halo, which in my opinion are a much better series.Lance_Kalzas
