I'm playing Halo tonight and throughout the entire game this idiot on my team, his gamertag was RM SWAT, wouldn't shut the hell up the whole game. "C'mon guys. Let's do this. We can do this. We can beat them." Why do people think others will play better when they try to motivate us? And it's always someone who stinks who tries to be the team leader. The good players are keeping their mouths shut killing people. It's always someone who stinks at the game who appoints himself the team leader.

so they win? why would be playing if you don't want to win? Encouragement is better then swearing at you saying you suck. I hate being told what to do when host. I had this american guy telling me what settings I need to use in GTA. It got to a point where I said leave if you don't like it. Then he told everyone to kill me. It was great no one listened and he left :) Seriously my match was not the only one on xbox live. If you don't like it then move on, thats what I do.

There are so many generalizations in your statement my head hurts. Also, I can;t believe I am hearing this. Would you rather they scream racial slurs and profanity? Cause that's what usually is being said over the microphones. Be thankful you have a random paired teammate, good or bad, who would rather motivate you than bend your mom over the entertainment center or teamkill you (as 2 examples).

So you would rather have stereos full blast and screaming boys than motivation? Never thought I'd hear that.

LOL. reminds me of a time when the worst guy on the team was like that. I told him to shut up (not even shut the f**k up, just a "please, shut up") and he went off the deep end. so I made sure to drop his shields for the other team until he quit. I play games for fun, not to have someone try to "motivate" me.

Maybe you haven't been on XBL long but the usual convo is either racial slurs or an who has the biggest e-peen contest.

Motivation is always good but if the guy was bordering on ridiculously annoying then I can understand when you're coming from, still its hard to find optimistic people like that in online games. Most of the time they're all worried about themselves and the bs that goes on in the game.

It's not as bad as hearing a comstant humming, scratchy sound at one guy's end....And you're forced to listen to it if you want to hear anyone.

You answered your own question. because they are or want to be a team leader. they take on the roll of encourager or motivator eg leader.

This is part of the group process and if you want to understand the psychology behind it as you have asked, search google for team roles.

Also, I forgot. having to listen to encouragers is no way as bad as having to listen to ppl who speak another language that you do not understand.

This is not a racist or discriminatory remark, it is for/against all languages. if the majority in the team only speak japanese and 1 person speaks english, which the rest do not understand, it is annoying to them. If the majority speaks only english and 1 person speaks some european language that the rest don't understand, it is annoying to the english speaking ppl.

Im guilty of trying to motivate the team. If im in a game and its, for example, 48 (my team) to 47, then I find myself using phrases like" come on guys, 2 more, 1 more", but not all the time, just the ranked games that are neck and neck pretty much the entire game.

So true. It's a welcome to change to hear someone talking without every other word being offensive to someone
