We really don't need to pay, our money goes to all the frivalous aspects of Live and Microsoft does not take the money and do with it what is really needed is dedicated servers. If PC games can have dedicated servers for lag free gaming why the hell does Microsoft not just take our money and do something usefull and create servers so stupid issues like hosting doesn't happen.Ket87
thats because there are too many people on xbl for dedicated xboxlive servers. the dedicated servers you see now in COD4 and Halo, belong to the dev.companies.

Once again, Ket is right. You always make a good point. Most of the money we put into Microsoft should be rewarded on the other end, which is us. And Xbox Live for free would be a great start. Now, we all pay the same price for XBL, and yet we get some crappy service problems like disconnection errors, lag, etc. I guess nothing is perfect, but I believe in great service. We're not playing for free you know and there is no excuse in the world for bad service. We pay, you service. Simple. Now some of you are thinking, dont use XBL then. Then what the hell am I suppose to use? Now I'm speaking for the general public, I haven't had much lag issues or connection errors, except when I play Gears of War. Other multiplayer games are fine. You know what they say, you cant get something from nothing. That's the cold hard truth.
The amount of money we the consumers have spent on Gears of War, Halo 3 and COD4 let alone the £40 on LIVE, we should be able to play these games with no problem. I always found really bad lag issues on Halo 2 and 3 when I went into a big team battle match up. I'm sure if you asked microsoft they'd give you some long winded answer on my you have to pay the yearly fee. Being able to download movies, demos, themes etc.. is all fantastic but really all I want is to play the top online games like the ones I've mentioned at the beginning with no lag on dedicated servers. Then we might be able to have 32-64 player matches as well. £40 is a little steep I believe
I think a better question is.....
If I'm paying $50 a year, why do I then have to pay for some stupid picture to use as my avatar, or to download an episode of Lost that was on TV the night before... or for a theme... or for a couple new cars in a racing game?!
I have no problem with paying a yearly fee for a good service, but the microtransactions on top of that are ridiculous.
you have to pay for xbox live because microsoft arent happy that you pay for the console and then the games and they want more $
Look at playing playstation games online. once you have bought the console and the game you can play online without having to join a subscription live service.
the thing that really pisses me off is what if you only want to play online every now and then. you pay for 12month subscription and only use it a few times.

I agree its stupid you have to pay for ever little thing. They really nickle and dime the he11 out of the 360 gamers. o well though we still all waste our money on it.

I wish all of those themes and gamerpics were free once you purchase the game, or earn enough gamerpoints...

or better yet they were all free because they are just gamerpics and themes. lol. O and i think people keep a roll of paper next to their toilet because they don't like to have feces all over themselves.

I don't plan on buying one thing off of XBL that's not a full game. Haven't yet, and I'm not going to.

We pay for reliable service, tons of available content (some is free, most is not:() and a network that is exactly the same no matter what game you are playing (frindly user interface).
This is what I'm paying for:
I'm under the impression that the silver membership is free. You only pay for the gold service. (which you get free for a month).
So far as I can tell you can play your games online with the silver service. Don't ever pay extra to play something you've already bought, it just enables more companies to pull crap like this with every title or service that comes along. It's your willingness to bend over and take it that keeps these kind of business practices afloat.
My Xbox is not my cell phone. It is not my cable internet provider. It is not a credit card. I will not pay every month to use it's 'service'.
Whomever made the point about the ADs is spot on as well. They make enough off of advertising to support whatever 'service' we pay for, or that microsoft claims to provide.
you winThis is what I'm paying for:
VoodooHak
- An infrastructure that allows the community to self-govern with:
- Gamer zone
- Rep
- Prefer/avoid
- Feedback. Feeback is monitored by an international team. This same team polices game sessions.
- 2 levels of matchmaking:
- Preference-based with the features listed above
- Skill-based using the proprietary TrueSkill system
- Functional cross-game invite system that brings you straight into a friend's session
- Closed, secure network that actively checks for modded consoles
- Compared to the competition, MS seems to be the best connected to its community
- There's MS personnel dedicated to the Xbox Live community like Major Nelson and Trixie
- They have MVP, Ambassador and Community Developer Programs. See the gamercards in our sigs? MS didn't make those. But they do have their programmers help community sites.
- Community Calendar with Ladies Night, Prime Time and Family Game Night, Play with Devs, Game With Fame

You cannot play online with a Silver membership. XBOX Live is only $4.16 a month if you pay for it yearly. If that is too much for you to pay then I'd imagine that you don't own many games in general for any system. Microsoft has not raised the price once in the 5+ years of XBOX Live and I doubt they will anytime this console generation. $4.16 a month is practically free and pays for a much more reliable and stable network than what Nintendo or Sony have to offer. I get so many disconnects on PSN that it drives me insane! And the Wii's network is a joke with the only highlight of it being the Wii Shop Channel.
They charge for every damn thing...even those extra pack for certain games like gears halo etc...that should be free....i hate xbox live but i gotta deal wit it...
Why you've gotta pay? I dunno, but I'm more than willing to pay it over and over again.
Now that Nintendo has announced Pay To Play for some games MS will never get rid of their LIVE charges.
