they add another element to the game, i dont care for unlimited ammo or whatever else yo ca get from completeing certian objectives in the game but getting 50 points reminds me of the old super nintendo days where you wanted the high score and put your 3 initals. This is just on a bigger scale. Its not necessarily saying you are the better gamer but it shows what you have done.
its an extra little bonus but i wish you could buy a few things with it such as gamerpics nothing big but just anything

Here's a thought: For me personally I don't have interest in all that many games, this said, I personally go long stretches (except for this past holiday, good god) without buying new games. So for me, I can go back and play them over and over again with a sense that I've accomplished something in the game. For people with wider preferences, they may not care as much.

That is one of my reasons. Another is to do something challenging and being rewarded for it, but very few games have achievement points that are for people who work hard at them instead of just the hardcore people. Also, I hate those easy achievementsm that really don't prove anything to anybody.

Burnout and The Orange Box have had some of the best acheivements I can remember recently.

Yes. I'm really enjoying The Orange Box and it's achievements. I'm going to go back and get the ones I missed. I probably won't get all of Team Fortress 2 though. I don't really care for Mutliplayer achievements.I love them because again, you can play a game longer and have more fun.
Say a game has 15 missions and 40 achievements.
You might as well be playing 55 missions, because you must complete the certain objectives.
That said, I hate Guitar Hero 3 becuase its achievements are absolute bull

yeah i could sign out and back in 15 million times, but its not near as fun.
They add replay value to gamesChrisThaBest
QFT. I wouldn't replay a lot of games if it wasn't for achievements.
