why does gears of war 2 is not included in 2008's best game nominees? i mean, in gamespot gift guide it was the most voted game in "hard-boiled" section, it means that it overcame games like MGS 4, GTA 4, resistence 2 and dead space (that were nominated). most of xbox 360 gamers has GOW 2 and the opinion should be the same: it is best then the first one and should be, at least, in 2008 game of the year nominees.
Leaving out a very popular game like Gears of War 2 is the "cool" thing to do lately. It's ridiculous. I think it's easily the best game I have played this year (and yes I have played other games like Fallout 3, Fable 2, etc, which are all good games as well) and should totally at least be in the running for GoTY.
yeah i think its bull... i mean resistance is sonys attempt at a gears killer (epic fail much?) and thats on the list? BS. and MGS4 wasnt hyped? Resistance? SSBB? BS!
Gears of war 2 didn't pay enough to gamespot. seriously what were they thinking? not only gears of war, but there are many MANY other games that should've made it at least as a nomination!
I agree that Gears 2 should be in the running because its a pretty good game and that some of the choices up there were kind of weird, like NHL 09, Bioshock, or even Braid. Braid, however, actually deserves some merit even though its a downloadable game. I ultimately do not think, though, that Gears 2 will win the GOTY award because of the many in game bugs and glitches. Also the story ends in a more abrupt fashion than the first. SPOILERS** In the first, you at least got to kill the main boss as the last battle making it seem more climatic, but in gears 2, ur just introduced to an infected Brumak u have to destroy in the last 30 minutes of the game. You must make ur audience connect with ur enemies just as much as ur lead character to develop a good structured story.

I don't think it even deserves it. It's Gears of War 1 with different textures and a slightly different story. It's the same boring, linear shooter.jeffdoomsday

Are half the people on this forum serious? Who cares if Gears isn't on it,also it's not an official list so there is a chance that will could still be. If Gears was on it and lets say NHL or R2 weren't then there would be forums about it as well. Who cares if it is there game of the year,doesn't mean it's your game of the year as well. People need to know the difference between fact and opinion. It's not a fact that Gears is the best game of the year,it's opinion.

Whose GOTY I mean every publication and website has there OWN GOTY...you can bet GOW2 will get game of the year mention...
technically, the game is too late to be submit as GOTY because it is a new release. oh btw gears 2 is not a worthy contender because it has the same everything with enchantments except for graphics

It's too late? It was released on November 5th, which is about when part 1 was released and this site nominated it for GOTY then so your statement doesn't make any sense. I think it's just momentum for the poll and not official nominees...seriously putting Bioshock PS3, NHL 09 and Braid not only shows PS3 bias but ignores two of the best and most popular games of the year namely Gears of War 2 and Wrath of the Lich King

i hadn't thoght about it, but you're fully right!! NHL 09? bioshock AGAIN? NHL 09 is amazing. Haven't played GoW 1 or 2, but with all the great reviews/positive feedback it got, I think it should have been nominated at least. Definitely a no for Bioshock. Isn't it the same as the 360 version anyway?
I agree that it's completely ludicrous. Just because the editors of GS don't particularly like the game doesn't mean that others don't. The fact that NHL 09 and Bioshock for PS3 were put on over GoW2 is an insult that basically states GS has a preference to the PS3. You can't just go and exclude the premiere exclusive for the 360 this year, especially when so many people like the game.

It's true that GOTY is an opinion based award and it was at the editors discretion as to which games to put on the list. However, this is not what Gamespot thinks is GOTY, it is what the community thinks is GOTY. The fact that they claim it is the communities choice while leaving out the most popular 360 game of the year is a joke.

That is your personal opinion, many people believ that Gears 2 is worthy of GOTY, that's why it ahould have been an option.
Sometimes I don't agree with the way Gamespot rates its games and whatnot. SSBB is one of my favorite multiplayer games but the single player is just plain crap.GOW2 has stellar single and multiplayer. As long as Wii Music isn't on the list you wont see me protesting.
