so you have enough time to get hooked on the game but not so much that you start to get tired of it. plus microsoft wants you buying other games not playing the beta all the time.
If you want the game out this year, the beta period will have to be short so they have time to fix glitches and read through the feedback from the players. I didn't expect the beta period to be very long, but I wish the beta had come out sooner. Oh well, at least some of us get to try it out and help Bungie a little bit.
I was kind of disappointed when I first heard about it only being 20 days, but I got to thinking that this is perfect marketing for Halo 3. Get everyone hyped about it, allow them a "sneak peak" in the game before it comes out, then take it away. With as many people that are going to be playing it, you can imagine that Bungie will get enough feedback to correct bugs, and issues well within the first few days of it being available.

That's how I saw it too. The game may be out by September, and I'm sure its been tested like crazy for months. There will be SOOOOOO many people playing this over those 3 weeks that they will get PLENTY of feedback to polish the game up for release. Don't feel bad. If we're playing the real by September, this short beta will be but a distant memory.

pretty sad.. would've been nice if they told you the beta test would be that short.. i think most were expecting atleast a month or two.

actually, i bought crackdown for the halo 3 beta. but the game was still pretty fun. anyways about the beta, it's cool that it's only 20 days cuz if it was until launch, i would lose so much sleep and sunlight. when halo 2 first came out, me and a couple of my buddies played it for 24 hours and skipped school on the day of the launch. then winter break came and i didnt even step a foot outside of my room lol that's how addicting halo can be :D
i guess it's caus 21 days was a sufficiant amount for time for bungie to get the data and feed back they need from the public. think about it, halo is realy popular, so how many games can be played over a 21 day period...LOTS! and after every game or 2 you probably submit some kind of user feedback to bungie and or microsoft.
21 days and thousands of people playing = A lot of data, they are doing the beta because they want to fix and see what we do. If they had it go on for a few months then there would be so much data which they can't use becuase they don't have enough time to go through it.
I think it is so they can keep people wanting more so they buy the game immediately. I'm not gonna get Crackdown, don't really like it. I'll just mooch off of my friends Beta with Crackdown. :D

Actually if the people who bought Crackdown only for the Halo 3 Beta actually put the CD in their disk tray 'n tried the game out for like an hour would find out it's a really fun game that was worth the $60 in itself. So don't feel bad for emm.

Anyways I'm pretty excited, 21 days is enough for me to get a good taste of wha tto expect 'n at least it's out before I go to Europe for a month so I'm happy :) I hope Bungie gets what they are looking for from this Betaaaa..

You do realize that the one of the main purposes for the beta is to find all the glitches and super jumps and get rid of them for the final game, right?Â

Beta's are only for testing purposes. But still... I'm buying Crackdown again just for the Beta. I brought the game didn't like and didn't have live so I wasn't bothered... ...But now I have Live. Yeah, I'll pay £40 just for the Halo beta. I got those 2 weeks off of work so it'll give me something to do. I never played Halo 2 on multiplayer, but love the Halo games... Having heard about Halo 2 being one of the original Lives best games and recently being bitten by the Live bug, I'm ubber excited about Halo 3. Can't wait to see what its like.

They got a full game aswell for the 60 dollars. Other games are 60 dollars and don't have any extra so it's a good deal if you wanted crackdown aswell. And don't feel sorry for people who bought it just for the beta, those people are beyond hope even if they thought the beta would never end.

Do you realize things such as "super bounce" 'n some of that other crap were put in purposely? If you didn't know that start reading the weekly updates on Bungie.net, a long time ago for a Halo 2 update they talked about how someone put in secret weapon caches and stuff like the super bounce so they can get the advantage on everyone else. For fun. Besides, yea they'll be test for glitches 'n stuff, but I thought it was more of a stress test thing? Which is why they are doing a Beta? Cuz they have internal testers 2 test for glitches? Iuno 0.o

Didn't you read Frankie's article at all? He took great pains to stress that the Vidoc footage is from the alpha build, and that the beta we see next month will be far, far better. He also said that the final game will look far better than the beta too.

Exactly what I was guna say...
Maybe this guy didn't mean harm but it's people like that who don't read up 'n keep up to date with the updates who end up yelling 'n screaming about how Halo 3's graphics suck based on footage they've seen. :)
