Does anyone else find it very inconvenient that you have to call in to technical support just to turn off auto renewal now?

Is it set up that way where you have to put it on auto renewal?

I believe it's deliberate, their diabolical plan is that eventually you just give up.

/conspiracy. At least, it was. I did hear that the option to switch off auto renewal was put onto the recent XBL site redesign, maybe someone can confirm.

they hope you will forget to cancel it so they get more money but technically it isn't their fault so they don't get in trouble its so stupid i wish ps3 would have 360 games because thats the only reason i prefer 360. but if both systems had the same games id definetly get ps3

I must find that actually (if it exists) because I have no reason to renew Gold for a 4th year.

Tomoto1989

I don't know how it is now, but that is the way it was when I had my first 360. If you paid for gold and had a card on file they would automatically renew you and the only way you could get them to stop renewing you was to call and tell them. This annoyed me no end, because frankly early in the 360 cycle I had no real reason to want gold consistently as there were rarely any games where I cared about online or multiplayer. The excuse given to me by Microsoft was they felt that gamers would be upset if they had an interruption of service, which was the stupidest justification I'd heard for anything in a long time. It was just an excuse for them to make unsubscribing inconvenient. Now I don't have an issue with a yearly membership as there is a whole lot more reason to have gold than there used to be, Netflix alone makes it worth it to me.

And the title of this thread sounds a pit pervy. : )

I just buy cards. Just like adding points to my account. That way ya don't have to worry about auto renewal.

Unless... they aren't planning on stopping that anytime soon are they?

They can't. Not everyone has a readily available credit/debit card. Also the subscription cards are easier IMO.

Somehow I doubt this is what you mean but it's the closest I could find.

The option is probably somewhere extremely obvious and I'm king of the simpletons.

Pour annuler votre abonnement Xbox LIVE ou modifier votre statut de renouvellement automatique, appelez le Support technique Xbox.

Which translate to "To cancel your membership Xbox Live, or edit your status of automatical renewal, please call technical support xbox."

But you guys must've figured it out! Either way, ya can't do it from xbox.com

there was a promotion a while back, 1 month gold for £1, so i added my card details and i came across this problem where they automatically renewed a 1 month membership, every month, believe it or not :P. you do have to ring microsoft and turn off auto renewal and can only do so speaking to an advisor. the good thing about this is you can get a good deal, i said i wanted off auto renewal because i was gonna buy a 1 year subscription. the advisor tried selling me one asked how much i payed, i told him i can get it for £34 so he offered me it at £32.... good times

the reason behind the change was due to parents cancelling memberships ect, that's what I was told by Microsoft customer services when I complained a while ago.. you can only change it over the phone now

It's made deliberately hard so they can charge more money on your card whether you want it or not.

All I've found is that it says to call microsoft to cancel automatic renewal. Sign in, go to My Xbox --> Accounts --> Search "Account Management" and it says it right below that.
