Overheating due to poorly designed heat diffusion is generally accepted as the cause of the hardware probs. I've had mine for a year and usually fall asleep with it running a dvd and I've never had a problem so I can't really comment much on the subject. However, the hardware problems are supposed to be nullified when the 65nm chipset comes out...some people even say the Elites built in July already have this and are fixed now.
Although there is definitely a hardware defect in the 360...the people that actually get the RRoD are still a small minority.
yes, due to the amount of heat the GPU gives off, it overheats. about 30% of consoles are deffective (got ROD)fazio93
The famous "33% failure rate" is based onone employee at a retail chain saying something like "it seems like 1 out of 3 consoles we sell comes back defective" It's hardly a reliable estimate nor is it confirmed by Microsoft as far as i know so take it with a grain of salt.
Yeah one time we called Microsoft with questions about my (original) Xbox and they said that it was overheating because it was sitting on the ground and it couldn't circulate enough air to keep it cool,so I put it on a crate with holes in it, so air can pass in and out without any problems. Sure enough that actually worked, so I think if I get a 360, if I just do the same thing, I won't have problems. Hopefully.solardestructon
Dice work too ;)

not lmao
i use 2 small tiles about 2 by 4 inches that elevate the 360 about half an inch of the surface, it works to keep it slightly cooler
Poorly designed and they rushed it out to get it in for the holiday season of 2005.MJB91
So what's your excuse for the massive PS2 defects resulting in a lawsuit for Sony in which they settled out of court. Did they rush it too? It happens. MS made a mistake and owned up to it. 3 year warranty, retroactive reimbursement, and the new hardware revision solves the problem. A lot different than Sony refusing to do anything until sued and still never admitting that they, a hardware company, screwed up as well.
I bought my 360 like last week and i already have had the RROD. I will also be getting it back in 2- 4 weeks...Its pretty dissapointing when you fork out $400 and the thing breaks so easily. Same things have happened with all my friends xbox 360.
Mine never has? Had it since launch. Never understood why people think it breaks down so much.
Thornscar
It will break down sooner or later. It's like a ticking time bomb.
Hold on a second, if you bought it last week why oh why would you send it in for repairs when it is under the standard store warranty (30+ days)? You could have taken it back to the store and gotten a brand new one.I bought my 360 like last week and i already have had the RROD.
