Why does the 360 put out as much heat as a furnace?

It's not my console....the one I have now is the Elite with the extra heat-sink for the GPU...(see pic below if you have no idea what I'm talking about)

I've gone through so many xbox 360s I have lost count...seriously. All of them have put out over 200 degrees of heat. My room goes from a comfortable 75 Fahrenheit to 83 Fahrenheit in less than an hour.

I don't see how anyone can call this normal...

People go to extraordinary lengths to keep their xbox cool so it won't break: http://youtube.com/watch?v=LsXZGA9a6MI

So after all these years that the 360 has been on the market it still over-heats. Microsoft has not resolved the problem.

Well, you might say "Hey, I live up North so its cold so the extra heat is great"

lol

Unfortunately I live in FL, so having a console that puts out more heat than my computer is not so great. :P

ZOMG!!! IS this the next Xbox?! ^^^

Yeah I like my room to be at like 70 degrees. After about an hour of playing it will get up to like 74 before I open up the window to cool off my room. Funny how a small box can do that to a 15x13 room.

Heating a room with a 360, brilliant! I would make sure that there is sufficient space around your 360 to remove the heat from the box. You don't want to overheat it and have to replace it (again!)

My Xbox does not seem to run hot at all but it is the newer model and is on a glass shelf, my bro in-laws 360 as I recall does seem to radiate a fair bit though :?. I think both MS and Sony were so eager to throw as much power in a relatively small space at as low a cost as possible they both had heat issues, Sony obviously handled theirs better (thanks to longer testing no doubt) as they PS3 has an enormous fan in it for cooling :o.

After its been on for an hour I notice the room temp gets a bit high so I open a window. If you put your hand near the exhaust vent you can feel lots of hot air being pushed out the back of the console. I guess I'd rather have the heat coming out of the console than being stuck inside it and frying the electrics, but it would be better all round if it ran a bit cooler.
