... or maybe they delayed it just to finish developing the game :shock:zero9167
And a swing and a MISS
They've been pretty upfront about why it was delayed. After the 360 turned out to be a stronger console than the PS3, they broke their original plan to make it PS3 only. That, combined with the fact that the Sony machine has turned out to be very difficult to develop for, means that to get the game out for both systems at the same time they've had to push it back.digitaldisco

As far as I was aware this is common knowledge, it was all across the internet when it was first announced

A clarification here.... the ONLY reason that the GTA IV release got delayed is because the PS3 version is not yet complete and Rockstar has a written agreement with Sony to release both console versions of the game on the exact same date.

It was never going to be PS3 only as they planned to release to early in the new gens life, as for difficult to dev for, really... becuase despite they already have made a game for the 360, the PS3 version was only 2 weeks behind. and the "stronger console" bollox, seriously dude... you're reaching.
No dude, hes not reaching, it is common f'ing knowledge that the postponement was do to the ps3: http://www.xboxworld.com.au/news/gta-iv-delay-blamed-on-the-ps3.htm
"We think it is likely that the Rockstar team had difficulty in building an exceptionally complicated game for the PS3, and failed to recognise how far away from completion the game truly was until recently," said Pachter.
"We think it is also likely that Take-Two had a contractual commitment to Sony that it would not favour competitor Microsoft by launching the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV prior to launching the PS3 version, and believe that any delay of the PS3 version necessitated a delay of the Xbox 360 version," he added.

Yes, but they're payed to think like that. They aren't blinded by the same fanboyism you have!!
The 360 boards blame the PS3. The PS3 boards blame the 360. Truth is, none of us know exactly why. We can all blame whoever and whatever we want but until Rockstar tells us, it's nothing more then speculation. We can call guess to why, but none of us knows.
If you're basing your opinion off of what your read on a gaming website then you're going to hear crap like, "the PS3 is too hard to develop for", or "DVD9 is too small", or "Microsoft wouldn't let us make the hard drive required."
Lets stop blaming Sony or Microsoft until we know, if we ever truly know. Fact is, is that both versions are delayed, we will not play GTA IV until next year so lets stop talking out of our asses and "confirming" things that have not been confirmed.

so where the hell is this fact? THERE IS NO FACT. Only rockstar knows the reason. Stating an analyst as common knowledge is NOT FACT. There were rumours that dvd 9 was too small and that they needed the harddrive to stream, and of course the rumours of ps3 being too hard for them tto put the game on. FACT of the matter is, nobody in this thread knows the answer to why this game was delayed and everyone should do as nyc05 said and stop talking out of their asses

not really jackass.. care to read the rest of the article...
This isn't the first time that Michael Pachter (from US based Wedbush Morgan) has made claims in the past such as the value of EA stock, Xbox 360 price drops, the 'digital distribution versus packaged distribution' argument and a great quote from him back in 2005 we've dug up refers to his thoughts about online gaming.
"I don't think there are four million people in the world who really want to play online games every month," Michael Pachter.[source] Apparantly he feels that Microsoft's online strategy is "absolutely flawed" as we don't play console/PC games for social interaction, but rather to escape it.
The guy doesn't know anything just voicing his opinions which are hit and miss.
Actually to steep into the speculation, my guess is that both versions of the game were not ready. I recall reading a Game Informer article that said they saw GTA IV and didn't think it looked close to being ready for its release date. They also said they saw the 360 version of the game. Is it possible that the PS3 is somewhat to blame? Yes, because I can't recall a previous point in Rockstar's history where they were challenged to develop the same game for two completely different systems at the same time. I also do think that Rockstar has a commitment that would have caused a delay if the 360 version was ready before the PS3 version. I don't think that it was the case of the one version being done while the other was incomplete.
Michael Patcher is an analyst. Does he work for Rockstar? NO. Is he the lead designer for GTA IV? NO. In other words he doesn't know ****. Why can't people accept the fact that nobody knows, other then Rockstar, the reason for the delay?
None of you, I REPEAT, NONE OF YOU know the reason. You don't know it, Michael Patcher doesn't know it, I don't know it.....only Rockstar does. Stop trying to push your reasons on people when you don't know crap.
Just accept the fact that we don't know....why is this so hard? We....don't....know. It's not a hard concept to grasp. We can all give our opinions but they are nothing more then our opinions. The only thing that we know is that GTA IV is delayed and it sucks that it is but that's the reality.
I'm only pissed because people force their opinions as fact, but they don't know. It's getting really tiresome seeing fanboys defend their system to death. Everyone wants to play the blame game. Just quit it. Your opinions are fine, but stop pushing them as fact.
I wish we were going to play it this year, but we are not. Hopefully the time that Rockstar has to finish up gives them the opportunity to give us the best possible version of GTA IV.
