Please explain the hype.
I tried co-op story mode and split screen multiplayer at a friends house.
both seemed average
why so popular. does it have a killer online like cod4?
thanks

i thought gears was a great game and so did just about everyone else but i guess u didnt so wwatever it does have its problems just like all games and i prefer halo but still...great graphics interesting story decent acting 1337 chainsaws its got pretty much everything
I don't why you didn't like it. Maybe its not your taste. I think its the best shooter around with the best controls, cover system, and art style. But you don't have to agree. MuffinPunk
Art style?
Gears of war became popular because it had some nice new graphics and a new good coversystem.
I had the same experience with gears as TC and ive intruduced the game to some friends to and they also just said meh.
Its an okay fun action game, but it gets extremely repatitive and it has no real story and no likeable characters, all just cliched macho dudes.

Maybe so but I think Marcus is the most badass character ever. I dunno I find multiplayer addictive.
It was Xbox 360's first killer app. It's so popular b/c it was the 360's first great game. There was no shooter quite like it. jrabbit99
It's first great games were Call of Duty 2, Kameo(imo), and Oblivion.
I don't know if I would call Gears the Xbox's first killer app, Oblivion was very well received six months earlier and provided the same level of improvement in the RPG department that Gears did for tactical shooters. As for the game the core mechanics are fantastic (graphics, gunplay, cover system) but I thought the lame story (they don't even explain the Locust) and short single player mode were reason enough to mark it down. To me it is a solid, though not exceptional title. The heavy hand of Microsoft wanting to force the game out to stores before Epic was ready can really be felt.Senor_T_DubCORRECT :D
Cover system, a chainsaw bayonet, the Cole Train, the Hammer of Dawn, the chainsaw bayonet, it's a third-person shooter, the chainsaw bayonet, it's good and gory, and it's still popular even after almost 2 years. Plus, it has a chainsaw bayonet.Andrn
You hit the nail on the head
