Why is Halo so Awesome?

I enjoy Halo because it has a story that is interesting (to me) and it's just fun to play.

Whos is this person who asks such questions?  to ask why Halo is awesome is to ask the mening of life.  It just can't be answered! Halo 1 is the most awesomest (like that word?:D) between the two.

For years I have pondered this. What makes Halo "the best game ever?" I like Halo (multiplayer only a bit on the first game.)
But why is it so great? Seriously the story sucks. Mulitplayer is nothing awesome. So why are millions of poeple enjoying this crap? I bought Xbox and 360 (unlike most people here just for Halo) for a few games. But god, everyone thinks Halo as god. The question here is why?

Because Halo brought the core PC values of shooters to consoles.  That's why.  It did what no other FPS/shooter could do.

It came out in 2001 and everything that followed it has been inspired by it.  So please, enough with the Halo bashing and give it the proper respect it deserves.

Without, there may not have been all the shooters that you people enjoy these days on consoles.

in my first year in student halls, i took my xbox with me and i had a copy of Halo CE, one of my friends who was an exchange student form the states suggested we play Co-op, so we hooked it up to our common room TV, and started playing co op on legendary, we soon had a crowd of people watching, and eventaully it snowballed in Halo Slayer tournaments, everyone would want to play, even people who had never played it before, my xbox became public property & i could not take it back to my room. People even owned their own controllers even though they didnt own an xbox Halo must have been doing something right.

however Halo 2 didnt do it for me, I think the weapons lacked the feel of the original, Arbiter levels were horrible

I really like it because it is a game that doesn't involve lots of thinking, you can run and gun your way through and the things some characters say are hilarious. also the environments are awesome and act as a real base for the games extremely fun gameplay.

and everyone says the story is horrible. i think quite the opposite. i love the story of halo. it's original, it's exciting and it's not repedative. look at gears of war ( i actually really really like gears of war so don't think i hate it) gears has a horribly repedative and boring story. nothing nearly as good as halo.

and finally it is great because you can sit there with friends and not necisarelly be trying to smash eachothers faces in and still hav a lot of fun. the number of times that me and my sis hav been playing on multiplayer and jsut doing wacky stuff is huge! you just can't get that kind of enjoyment with games like half-life or CS i don't think.

but hey this is just my opinion. don't yell at me cause my opinion is different to yours. im not saying it's true to everyone. just to me

The main character is terribly imbalanced. This "Master Chief" is a terrible character that doesn’t say a word whilst playing and is has the capacity to carry an unrealistic amount of weapons. He should be renamed "Master NOOB". A 1 year old could finish game in legendary setting.Also the music is terrible, the last level of Halo 1 is meant to be suspenseful and exciting. The music ruins this ambience and ruins the game. Halo. A tired and extremely generic FPS that does nothing new and is an outright disgrace. BUNGIE HAS FAILLED

Halo is clearly a terrible game. The graphics are tacky and the AI is so stupid and very predictable. The AI are always in the same spots never doing anything new or making you (the player) think. This game is complet rubbish. the story line is a cleche. it is so predictable. the music is dull and every marine is a dumbass.

i cant undestand why you people love this game. it is a tired, boring, excuse for an FPS. it the most generic thing i have ever seen. the weopons are a sprayers delight and require no skill what so ever. So for gods sake stop playing and over rating this soory excuse for a game.

GO PLAY SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES SKILL!!!!

Hm, sounds like somebody doesn't like Halo.

But without Halo, would you be able to play all your personal favorite shooters on consoles?  Probably not.  Everything after Halo has been inspired by Halo, just like what happened with Doom in the 90s.

Hey, here's a novel idea:  Go play what you want and just shut-up "Mr. I just joined Gamespot with 2 posts so I'll give you guys crap with my n00bness"

because it was over marketed like gears. people who dont know anything about videogames know halo and gears. its just like saying whats the awesome muscle cars of all time.. charger and camaro and the real awesome ones in both genres are the ones no one really pays attention to. thats just my opinion.

btw. i love both.. both are really fun to play reguardless of the storyline.
