I thought gamers were suppose to be open to new technology.

all i'm hearing is complaints about how "bad" it is even when it hasn't been released and very few have even used it.

Deano
It's the software available with it. The move isn't gonna be that much better, but it has some really good games compatible for it.

I mainly hate Kinect because Microsoft made so many promises about it that just haven't come to fruition. I don't want to wave my arms around and talk to my TV just to play a game, and even if I did, all the stuff I've read about it has been negative. I'm hoping it becomes a big failure because if motion control is the future of gaming then I won't be playing games any more.

The games and the advertisements. Looks like its geared toward little girls and moms.

I need to see hard core games, demonstrated in action, before i am interested.

I did buy Move even though its launch games are crap....but they have at least shown hard core games work with move and are coming out soon.

Good news, they announced a sequel to Steel Battalion and some others coming to Kinect....just have to wait and see.

It's just that it takes focus away from the types of games that I like. If I had wanted motion-controlled games, I would have gotten a wii. Therefore, it is disappointing to see MS spending so much time, effort and money into developing a technology that I don't want when it could be spending the same time, effort and money on developing new ip's or expanding on ones they already have.

Kinect itself is an impressive piece of technology. The problem is that just about every game they showcased for it were blatant ripoffs of Wii games. Kinectimals=Nintendogs, Kinect Joy Ride=Mario Kart, and they couldn't even come up with a creative name for Kinect Sports.

Its obvious Microsoft's sole intent of releasing Kinect is to cash in on Nintendo's market as opposed to actually trying to make something that will revolutionize video games. If in the future Microsoft gets its act together and comes out with some genuinely good games, I may change my mind, but if this is the most Microsoft plans to do with Kinect I hope if flops.

Simple answer: Haters are going to hate

It is a new technology that only has family games so far. Anyone you find on these forums most of the time are hardcore gamers. The kinect is not directed at them it is directed at the casuals. Such as my wife who now wants to buy a kinect for the family.

Because it's something completely fresh and different. Some people are just too scared to try something new, or at least give it a small chance, so they jump to conclusions and introduce hate about it. I think the idea for it is pretty sweet, and it looks as if Microsoft are going about it the right way. If they just introduce more genres to it and less family games I'll be sold. Either way I'll definitely be trying it out to see how it works.

I'm not afraid of Kinect or change for that matter. I just don't like motion controllers, or in this case no-controller video gaming. I had a Nintendo Wii.. I hated the motion controller aspect of it. And I'm not going to start waving my hands around, or start talking to my character with voice communication. I prefer games the way they are right now.

I don't mind Kinect/Playstation Move but i still feel motion technology is pointless, what's wrong with a controller?

This is NEW and DIFFERENT. Yes the wii is just about the same thing, but with kinect you don't use any sort of controllers. You just use your hands and body. That's what makes it fresh.

its kind of odd; the hardcore gamers needs a physical controller to play a game, because that is all they know. if you look at a none gamer that same controller is the reason why they do not play. what the will did was open the market of an non gamer and now PlayStation and xbox wants a some of that money, but if you look at what makes the ps3 and xbox different from the will is not forcing the game maker to make the games with that hardware, meaning that hardcore gamers will say their is no games for them on the kinect. sadly time will tell if kinect does good.

I can't speak on everyone's behalf hear but going by most of the responses it looks like the consensus is a lot of the games so far do not appeal to "Hardcore" gamers, and a fear that MS will neglect them in favour of a different demographic.

that's probably the most legitimate concern -if you can minus actually haters andfanboys because they're not reallyimportant anyway.

My concern is how much dedication and involvement MS will put into Kinect on a Micro level to support Devs in build Kinect games from the ground up that are creative and do not in the end become just carbon copy of many Wii games.

I completely expect that there will be a lot offamily kind ofgames, because fair enough they are fun and will apeal to many other people and this is where MS will probably put most of their efforts.

My concern is:

Will their be enough devs out there who are able to be creative andthat can really utilise Kinect's potential in meaningful and deep ways to really add something new to popular existing genres like FPS, RTS and action adventure games?

example.

Perfect Dark 3 has tacked Kinect features.

You can move your hand around like a reticule, but the game will be on rails because they couldn't find some good way of utilising Kinect to move the character and it's just really a selling point for the title or..

Perfect Dark 3 built from the ground up with Kinect and Control pad features completely integrated.

You can use a regular control and use voice commands to call out menu, inventory and drop call support items all inthe middle of an intense firfight seemlessly.

Use the hand gesture abilities to call out squad mates instead of barking out orders because Kinect will actually act like a real life ear for the enemy A.I. and will hear you.

Kinect can scan your face and other people so the NPCs can use them instead.

How about an actual detective game where you have to manipulate items in a room- pick up a box and open it, open drawers.

be like a wizard and call forth magic spells by doing moving your hand in combination with calling out your spells

I don't hate it. I'm just leery about it whether it will sell well. It's very new technology, having the ability to use your hands and body instead of the use of controllers. People hate it because they are used to controllers and don't want to change that tradition.

Because so many gamers are to big fat and ugly, to want to have a machine that puts them in the center of everything! You get pictures of yourself, and you get to control everything with your voice!

I cant wait to give one to my family back home, and have an actually nice way to video chat with my kid brother.

Of if i have to go for a piss while watching a movie, rather then turning the controller back on and pressing start, i can just tell it to pause while getting up.

Not to mention, that its 3d video function gives it a much more balanced and accurate way of telling you how to work out!

People dont like it, because they havent begun to comprehend how this technology will benefit them! Just think of the street credit, and the fun at drinking partys!

I'm pretty excited for it, I had it preordered months ago. The games I played responded really well and were a lot of fun.

I'm also a huge mech game fan (Chromehounds was one of my favorites), so Steel Battalion just seals the deal for me.

It just isn't new or different. Heard of the eyetoy and the Wii? Motion control has been done and so has using a camera as a controller.

Except with Kinect you don't hold anything. Imagine playing a racing game while holding an invisible steering wheel. You're not only going to look like a baboon, but it won't feel right. At least with the Wii you have a controller to hold. But I expect Microsoft to go mental with the extra peripherals for it and for them all to be overpriced.

personally for me its not kinect itself thats the issue, infact I'd say that I'm intruiged by the possibilities that it may hold for the console BUT what I am not impressed by is the software line up thus far. It all looks like simple rubbish designed to cash in on the massive casual market. Those of us in the hardcore are feeling rather left out at the moment

A lot of people are saying that the hate is coming from fear of something new and different... This isn't a new political party, this is a gaming peripheral. I really don't think that "fear of something new and different" factors into the equation. The only people feeling "fear" from this are Xbox-hating fanboys who don't want it to sell.

I'm not really excited about the Kinect. I wouldn't say "hate" is a good word for it, more like "skeptical." The primary reason for this is the software lineup. The Playstation Move has Killzone 3 and Dead Space: Extraction announced right off the bat. That bodes well. The Kinect hasn't announced a single worthwhile title yet.

Although, my fiance is just about jumping out of her shoes excited to try Dance Central. I'm not into stuff like that, so by proxy, I'm not into the Kinect. If they announce a worthwhile title, I'll be interested, but right now it's something that's almost twice the price of the Move with nothing to play on it.

What I'm really worried about with Kinect and The Move is that they're going to turn the 360 and PS3 into a new home for HD shovelware. Look at the massive amount of crappy games that have been released on Wii because of the gimmicky controls. There have been some outstanding games on Wii, but you really have to sift through the terrible games to find the good ones. It will take a while for the 360 and PS3 to build up a comparable amount of shovelware, but it's already starting with the launch games for both Kinect and The Move. I'm sure there will be a game to come out next year sometime that everyone will want Kinect for, but once we all beat the game we're gonna be stuck with this 80 dollar peripheral that we can only use to pet our fake animals and go white water rafting.
