Why is it so expensive? It just a wifi board with a plastic antenna in a plastic casing. Is MS just trying to rip people off? Link to a reasonably priced one (around $20 or below).

I have to say, the $100 one is still the best one you can get, and it looks great on the system. What you end up paying the most for though is the fact it attaches tot he system, and the slight 360 optimization. Why is it so expensive? It's rediculous. It probably costs $5 to make, if not less.
My friend had a third-party one (Like $30), but it wasn't good.
Because it's the best one out for 360 and it's a first party accessory. However it should not cost $100. The fact is that they made the 360 to be outdated when it came out so that they can sell new accessories that should have been built into the console for ridiculous prices.
The other problem is managing the things that go into building WiFi into a console. Heat, space, price, production.Because it's the best one out for 360 and it's a first party accessory. Will work with your 360, your PS2, your PS3, any future console, all at the same time.
If you don't want to pay the $100 there is one other way to get your 360 connected to the internet via wi-fi if you have a laptop or a PC with a wireless card. Basically what you do is connect the 360 to the laptop and piggyback off of the laptop's internet connection. You can find instruction on how to do it here.
Because money is the root of all evil and they want to make u believe ur paying for quality and u are actually the 360 adapter has a stronger connection then the wii and PS3 but ur right of the price i feel 50 dollars would have been fair but they wuldnt sell it for 20 thats fer sure
Because it's insanely overpriced (like other accessories on the 360).
It shouldn't cost more than $30.

You linked me to a wireless router. Im looking for something that connects to a 360 and allows it to connect to a wifi connection.
It's expensive to keep people from using it.
Wifi tends to drop packets a lot which if enough players are using it will pretty much make most game online games very frustrating. If the wifi adaptor was $20 (or built in like the ps3) then pretty much everybody w/ a wifi connection would be using one, and XBL would be even worse, and most of us would play online less. Since the adaptor is expensive very few players buy one, and the quality of XBL is saved.
Not sure why that thing is 100 bucks. I was pissed when mine broke only after 5 months of usage.K1LLR3175lol that suks
Because it's the best money can buy, mine can connect to my friend's wireless network almost 2 block's away.
It's weird, I remember I bought the linksys WGA for 50 bucks several years ago, but now they're trying to sell it for over 200 dollars. Strange. Anyhow, here is a cheap alternative.

From what I've heard from coworkers and people at my store is the've bought 3rd party ones, and the Microsoft one has given them a better connection. Sure sounds like optimization to me, but at the cost of about $70.Why is it so expensive? It just a wifi board with a plastic antenna in a plastic casing. Is MS just trying to rip people off? It's so expensive because they can make it that way and people still buy it for that price. Would you not want to sell something for a high price if people will buy it?
No it can't.Because it's the best money can buy, mine can connect to my friend's wireless network almost 2 block's away.
