I wonder why so many games have Collectors Edition, I mean there are alot of them coming out this year and even crappy games like Two Worlds has collectors. Do companies just make collectors to make an extra $10? I really dont see a point in so many games having them. The only game I can really see having collectors is Halo 3.

usually its all about getting the extra buck so thats pretty much why they make special editions..i mean some of the special editions for some games are actually worth it..but most are just out to make an extra buck

With the popularity of DVD came a format with extra space on it. Since people expressed interest in things like bloopers, deleted scenes, commentairies and whatnot (and showed they would pay extra for stuff like this) companies got smart and packed extra stuff in with their original product to attract attention and increase sales. Game companies obviously know that thousands of gamers are interested in stuff like making of featurettes and photo galleries and put that stuff in with their games to make more money.

Actually not all of them are rip offs. For Bioshock the gamers asked for it and then they made a poll for the stuff people wanted to come with it. That's why we got the Big Daddy Figure, DVD and EP , cause those were the top choices. They were even gonna include an art book but they couldn;t do it in time I think, but now if you go to their site you can download it for free.

I can't imagine anyone actually "collecting" these. Its not like a toy, where at least you can look at it through its packaging, or a comic book where you can at least read it once before storing it away. The only way to enjoy the game is to either:
A) Buy 2 of them. Collectors and original. Paying well over $100 for the lot
B) Open the collectors edition, rendering it not worth collecting anymore.

I just don't get it.
