Looking back at the beginning of the year all I heard was "2009 is going to suck"..in terms of games. Our "gaming future looks bleak". But I kept being optimistic figuring something good would come out by the time my 2008 game's replayability has worn off. And here we are now with some really good deja vu. Remember the great year 2007 was? Some of the biggest games in the industry: Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, Assassins Creed, Forza 2, Mass Effect, Bioshock and so on. Here we are 4 mths later with Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3 ODST, Assassins Creed 2, Forza 3, Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, and so on; you get the point. So why are we as a whole so quick to jump to conclusions?
Also some jump to the opposite conclusion based on a teaser trailer. Its a TEASER trailer and yet you have millions of fan boys labeling it GOTY. And then everyone wants to send hate mail to the developer because the game didn't live up to their own hype. If only you waited to see for yourself what the game was truly made of before you made assumptions then maybe you wouldn't be so bummed out. Lastly remember the grumbles because Treyarch was making the next COD? "Oh its gonna suck just like COD3" 8 mths. later and 11 million units have been sold compared to COD4's 13 million, and one had a 1 yr. head start.
Another example, the 24 hr. xbox live matience. When I heard about this a week ago, I figured ok cool, just some prep for some more great LIVE features. But that wasn't exactly the case. Some people truly don't have the patience to wait a WHOLE 24 hrs. Is xbox all some really live for? Some act like its the end of the world or there taking it down for a week? And so if the did, I'm sure you can find something else to do. By the time its all said and done everyone will have survived and will be ever more eager to go on a killing spree and will also welcome the new features on LIVE this fall that were only capable with this 24 matience session. Is hard to understand that some things don't just magically appear?
One last point, release dates. So your really looking forward to the new batman game comming in the spring and you log onto gamespot one day to see that its been bumped up a few mths. Oh let the complaints and overwhelming disappointment begin. Wouldn't it be more disappointing to spend $60 on a half a$$ed game? Yes, there are time when games take forever to release and when the finally do they suck, 10 years anyone? But normally when a game is pushed back it's because the developers have found a crease in the game that needs ironed out.
So is it just me or do we need to just back off some times and exercise a little patience?
