Why the heck are so many people playing Halo 2?

Seriously, just looked at a thread of the best xbox live games and almost everyone had halo 2 in. Why buy a xbox 360 to play a goddamn xbox game on. Gears and Vegas are much better online so why rate them lower.

Sure Halo 2 was good online but its been almost 3 friggin years. Move on.

GoW is so-so at best....R6V is kinda hard but fun...Halo 2 is a classic and myself i like a great classic

Halo 2 is a classic that is still popular because a sequel hasn't come out yet.

you pretty much answered your own question in your topic title. one of the main reasons halo 2 is so popular is because it's so popular, it never takes long to find a game and the variety of people playing is fantastic.

I would assume the reason people are playing it is because they like it. There are different taste for gamers. I know what you mean. Its not a game that i am right ino either

when i had halo 2 i had a regular xbox with no live and i sold it and got a 360 a year later. i started playing halo 2 on live and i didnt like it that much. my third match i played, there was 3 people using i guess modded regular xbox's and hacking and it just didnt seem as fun or intense and Gears. I dunno maybe i didnt give it enough of a chance but i think gears is the one reason to own an xbox 360.

Halo 2 is probably the most balanced online game out for XBL. Just because it's last gen doesn't mean the gameplay suddenly becomes bad. People still play Counter-strike and that was released what... like ten years ago? And I'm not talking about CS:S, I know that came out in 04.

Well, first off, Halo 2 is still the best multiplayer available anywhere, so that's one reason. 2, Gears is not that good online. 3, Vegas IS great online, but its very slow and methodical compared to the run and gun craziness of Halo 2. There really hasn't been a crazy, fast paced, run and gun FPS released for the 360 since PDZ and sorry, but PDZ is really bad compared to Halo 2. Rare needs to stick to games like Viva Pinata, they clearly have no idea how to make a shooter anymore.

The 360 really doesn't a good run and gun shooter like Halo 2 yet. So far the best shooters on the 360 are, realistic ones (GRAW and RB6 Vegas) and the unique stop and pop Gears of War. PDZ is pretty much run and gun but feels pretty slow in comparison to Halo 2. So until Halo 3 comes, expect a lot of people to remain playing Halo 2...

Because there are not any games as fun online as Halo (IMO).  Gears and COD3 are close, but halo 2 has a better "feel" to it, im not sure how to exactly put it.

Halo 2 was the best game on Xbox Live for a long time. Bungie did so many things right with the game despite how they may feel now that they have their new baby. Although according to Major Nelson if the 360 and Xbox online activity lists were to be combined, Gears would beat out Halo 2. Still what hurts Gears is it's lack of modes.

Why do you need to swear just to ask a question? Does it offend you that much that people still enjoy Halo 2?
Why tell them to move on? Does it offend you that much that people still enjoy Halo 2 enough to play it well after it's release?
Why does it matter if they buy a 360 and play any xbox game? Does that offend you?

These are three questions that are better than the one you asked in my opinion. I'll quietly step over here and put on my anti-flame suit now.

Oh yeah, to answer your question, they probably didn't buy a 360 just to play Halo 2. They more than likely either bought it for the 360 games and still happen to like Halo 2 enough to play it on there 360.... Or, considering they don't sell xbox's anymore I'd suppose they either had to buy a used xbox or a 360 to play Halo 2.

Halo 2 is only so great game in multiplayer and singleplayer. And even if people say that it is a best multiplayer, that does'nt mean that people play only Halo 2. For a sample I think that Morrowind is a fantastic game, but I have not played it in last two years.
