As many of you know, Halo Wars is closing in. I'm hearing a lot of amazing things about this including, 'Redifines RTS' and 'The RTS game to end RTS games'. I want to know, why the hype like this? I understand some hype from the Halo fanboys, but this is insane! Have any of you hypers played Starcraft, Company of Heroes or even EndWar? Those are those are the real RTS defining games.

Think about it.

first of all any thing with the halo name attached to it is going to get a lot of hype and all of those games that you listed are pc exclusives except for end war. third this is a more simple rts a console exsclusive that was made for the consoles by guys that have had a good history with rts games. people are thinking that this could be that same as halo were it made a new type of genre reconizeble in the console like halo did for first person shooters. and the demo was pretty good to

once you bring PC RTS titles into the argument things will get ugly and im sure the "redefine RTS" comment was talking about console RTS games and not PC.

Exactly my point. No RTS will ever live up to these and the hype needs to lower. And yes, Ensemble is an RTS veteren but they make semi-complex RTS with controls that are hard to port to consolse. So far the only good console RTS(in my opinion and no, I haven't played C&C yet) is EndWar, and thats because of the unique control scheme(voice controls). Explain to me how this will be any different than Supreme Commander or Universe at War.

i had alot more fun with the demo then i had with any recent RTS the PC offers, i dont understand how people think that an RTS has to be really complex to be really good. i mean i like this so far more than CoH. all Coh, has extra is a cover system which i wished halo wars had too. and plus Halo Wars has about the same complexity as SC and WC and those are still some of the the best RTS's. just because a Console RTS is basic or any other for that fact doesnt make it bad. my favorite RTS games are SC and WC, AoE series, and dawn of war. OH and i loved star trek armada... :) this game is about as fun as any other RTS to me, im gonna enjoy being able to come home sit on my couch and command my army of wraiths and banshees for a couple 15 min games online and have fun. and i thank ensemble for letting me be able to do that :) in the end i think if halo wars brings the same fun and excitment and strategy that a PC RTS offers it deserves its hype. its not DA BEST RTS but still i think it deserves praise :)

Endwar? Mediocre game is mediocre. About Halo Wars, it has to do with Halo, so of course it will be popular, its made by Ensemble (creators of more RTS defining games), the demo was pretty awesome, being the first RTS to truly fit with a controller, and so on. Point is, the game looks to be awesome. What you are saying is just biased PC love. The game may not be dramatically redoing the RTS solution, but it is for consoles.

I have played all the Age of Empires games, both of the Age of Mythology games, and War Craft 3 Reign of Chaos. I can at least say that Halo Wars won't disapoint, I expect that it will be better than the other games Ensemble Studios has made over the years. I know those other games we all listed are good, but Halo Wars has its chance to shine because of its amazing graphics (for an RTS at least), and its new more unique game play. I think it is safe to say that it will be a good game. As for the hype i would guess it has the word Halo in it. Most all of the Halo games were very hyped before they were released.

There was to be a StarCraft player here who thought Halo Wars was soooo easy, I am talking about skirmish.

The unit cap pisses me off though.

Why does unit cap piss you off? Unit cap or population has been in a lot of RTS. It makes you need superior strategy instead os superior force. In other words, it r make u need think more.

I haven't heard a single person say it redefines RTS games. Thats a bunch of bull. Its just a generic RTS game. I'd rather play Dawn of War II then Halo Wars.

They most likely have never played a RTS on PC. Halo Wars as a Console RTS is simply the best, but it can't compete in the Majors. COH, WiC, Supreme Commander, DoW simply run it over and urinate on it.

Im not into RTS but as a very experienced gamer i understand what you are implying, im not even going to bother with halo wars knowing starrcraft3 is closing on release, as well as that i wont bother with ODST knowing aliens vs predator3 comes out early next year.

The marines in the HALO used to have different names and existed in a movie by the name of ALIENS, example theres like no difference between sgt johnson and sgt apone.

You dont get me, i was just pointing out the similarities between the two, specifically the designs of the marines, covenant and flood, the quotes from aliens, weapons, etc. Halo is great but as the point of this thread suggests, in terms of RTS games, there are many other better games.

I'm not saying Halo Wars is better or worse but how do you know? Last I checked Halo Wars is not out yet and it doesn't even come out until March 3rd. Very likely this will be a solid RTS title for CONSOLES but to be honest, that doesn't matter. I think people are better off not judging a game before it comes out let alone before they even try it.

Pheonix534 the reason I said "The RTS to end RTS games" is because I think it will SELL MORE COPIES than most other RTS games in the past. I said the gameplay would be good and that it would be a decent game to buy, but if you think I'm saying it will simply outclass every other RTS game then you missunderstood me. Although I would say it is going to be better then the AoE series BECAUSE it is made by the same company and they have had more time to work on it that any of the AoE games. They have had time to get the kinks out. And AoE were great games... I'm not trying to drag their reputation through the dirt. I cant say that any of the games people have mentioned aren't good, but Halo Wars should be up there when it comes out. Actually when I heard of the concept of Halo and RTS being together, I thought it would be stupid and crazy. But after watching some gameplay trailers and seeing what went into this game, I have changed my mind. I would encorage you to learn more about it.

Actually, it probably won't sell nearly as much as most RTS games(unless your talking concole only). If you look at the sales of Dawn of War, World in Conflict and Starcraft, you'd be impressed.

I love Company of Heroes. I also loved Homeworld and it's sequel. Maybe I just like Relic made games! Except for The Outfit, man was that terrible. Halo Wars looks alright, but I'm just not too interested in it. Especially since RTS on the console is becoming the new WWII theme. There's just way too many of them saturating the market now.

Halo+ Ensemble Studios+ RTS= Sales. My friend who has never played an RTS is going to buy it. It will attract Halo and RTS fans alike, and considering it is rated TEEN more people will be able to buy it. I also said " I think" it will sell more copies. Never hurt anyone to guess, exept for astronauts, if they guessed they would be screwed.

[QUOTE="Atomic_Bacon"]Pheonix534 the reason I said "The RTS to end RTS games" is because I think it will SELL MORE COPIES than most other RTS games in the past. I would encorage you to learn more about it.Atomic_Bacon

And that's another thing. What's up with Halo! It's not that great of a game. I personally think that it's mediocre. That and Gears of War. I guess im just an anti-fanboy.

Ensemble Studios has created AoE and AoM; both are great RTS games for the PC. So it's hard not to be hyped up about a game that is being made by a great developer.

Even though the hype may be much it's good for the genre and the game. Since it is Halo some will take it over the top, but that does happen with every game that gets hyped up. This game caught my interest when it was announced and after playing the demo a few times I'll probably play this regardless of the fact that it's been a while since I played one.

Judging from the demo, this is easily the best RTS on a console, ever. But that isn't saying a whole lot.

I don't think there is too much hype for Halo Wars but I did play the demo and think its going to be a great RTS. Will it compare to Company of Heroes?? I doubt it, that is the best RTS ever made.

It's in the eye of the beholder. I still wish I had a copy of Homeworld; that's my favorite RTS game.

The reason there's a lot of hype for it is because it's a great game! The controls work great, the action is great, I really liked the demo, why don't you try it for yourself? IMO, the best RTS on a console is the downloadable game, "Age of Booty" :D

I never played the first but i played the second and it was great. Anyway i consider Halo wars a good rts but the best console rts so far. With this control scheme i hope other developers will use it and it'll open the doors to more rts games that are actually easy to control.

Oh, bull crap. Theres been hardly any hype for Halo Wars. Alot less than the core Halo titles. As for "redefine rts", well it is for consoles.

But why does it matter? Why does hype bother people so much? So what if people are excited? So what if microsoft advertises their games like anyone else?

Why is it that when ever Halo gets hype suddenly the sky is falling but when it's Call of Duty, Fallout, Bioshock or any other game it's fine?

****ing internet....

Phoenix534

Hype is never fine, for any game. I've always hated hearing it and this forum is about 1/3 hype. It's insane.

Everything is hype. If hype really bothers you that much then you ought to stop wasting your time playing favorites with Halo and be busy complaining about the hype for RE5, Killzone 2, God of War III and Street Fighter IV. Really though, it's pathetic. Hype doesn't destroy your health, kill your family or cause the end of the world. Believe it or not it has existed long before videogames or Halo. And it's never going to go away. And theres nothing wrong with it either. Just stop complaining and make a topic that hasn't been done to death for once.

Thus the reason you choose to attack Halo Wars. You don't like Halo from the start (i'm not a fanboy just someone who played and had a good time) which is one thing that turns you from Halo Wars. And you hate people comparing it to your favorite RTS games. Your personal dislike of Halo+ People slaming your favorite RTS games= One very bad relation with anyone who likes the game. I don't blame you for hating Halo, i've seen planty of people that don't like it because their favorite games (although good) did not get the attention that Halo did. Now if you hate it because you don't like the gameplay, story, or the characters that's something entirely different...

Who really cares if its goint to the best rts no one I have seen said it would. Just let it go it was a good question and I see the point really but you have to look at the library of rts games that these current consoles have not pc's consoles there is a difference I assure no matter how much they think they are computers there is still a difference. This argument is like a few I seen that states "Why do console gamers think that console graphics are better then PC's? Anyone play Crysis?"
