United States? They are allowed but a lot of games are toned down in the violent or sexual content because they think they'd get more sales rather than an AO game, which kids aren't allowed to buy in most places.

No ban of AO games. You can buy them just fine, if you can find one.

Here's a list: (don't look kids)

Not until retailers will sell them (many refuse to) and console makers allow them.

My honest opinion was that the no AO games "rule" was instituted by console makers as a way for them to inexplicitly discriminate against porn games when those were really the only AO titles, but this policy has now become a hotter topic given the rising age range of gamers.

AO games are allowed in the U.S., but most, if not all, major retailers won't carry these games and the system manufacturer won't license the game for their system. I believe Nintendo and Sony are the only ones who will not license AO-rated games for their systems in the U.S.

Console manufacturers will not allow for Adult Only games to be sold in the US. You can buy adult centered pc games, but not console games. In Japan and Germany they have pornographic games for consoles. US retailers are not allowed to carry AO games because they are banned by the console manufacturers. If you don't believe me look up the news coverage for Manhunt 2.

there is no ban on AO games, people don't make them because they're finacial flops 100% since no retailer caries them.

And that's because we're a bunch of prudes. Make it illegal for those under 18 or 21, whatever to buy, fine those who sell it to underage gamers, and make some games. I don't know if I would buy any or not because the quality of a game is still the deciding factor for me in any case. But why restrict game developers creativity?

There is no "ban" on AO games. A "ban" is something that the government does. The rating system in the US isn't even mandatory, its voluntary.

The big console makers simply don't make AO games, and companies like Walmart , Target , etc won't carry them even if they were made.

That isn't a ban. Are they forcing people not to make them? No... Developers can make them. They won't work on a console (unless it is modded most likely). AO games are allowed in the U.S. which is what the topic title says. It doesn't say when will Microsoft, Nintendo, or Sony allow games on their consoles (which he may have asked in his pst, but i didn't read it).

No there is not a ban on AO games. The fact is that not a single copy would sell because for one they wouldn't work and for two you would have to search for ever just to find one. Actually they probably would sell because people are stupid.

AO games arent so much banned as most places will not carry them which effectively can kill sales of some games, the US is very squemish about nudity and i have never been able to figure out why buts thats another story, many devs make games with the US audience in mind because it is such a huge market they dont want to screw themselves out of

If they were banned, why would they make a rating for it called adults only, implying adults can buy it. It would just be called banned.

Here's an idea... Create games with AO content, but are marketed as Teen... I say this because the game in it's packaged state would only have material that would give it a teen rating, but once your gamertag is used to validate your age, you have the option of unlocking the AO content in the game. This way, developers don't have to worry about losing sales in developing AO games and can market said games to a broader audience. What do you think?
