I just recently heard that BioShock 2 is on its way. BioShock was a great game, it is actually one of my favorite games because it has an amazing strory, and great gameplay, but it is missing one thing that would work well in it, multiplayer. Hopefully BioShock 2 will feature online play. I can imagine BioShock having a great multiplayer. Imagine being able to make your own character, choose a mask, or no mask, hats or no hats, suits, or hawwain shirt, or whatever. Imagine 8vs8, an enemy is running in the water and you can shock the water, or freeze the water to keep him or her in place, or something like that. It would be fun if BS2 is online, guns and genetic powers would be great online play.

Does anyone agree that multiplayer would work great in BioShock? or do I stand alone?

Agreed.  Bioshock 2 should focus entirely on Single player.  The fist one was great and it didn't have MP.  Why mess with success?

Edit: forgot the 2 :P

Its the same thing I say for Metroid Prime.

There is absolutely no reason to add a multiplayer mode. To me, it just wouldn't work. I honestly cannot think of it working, at all.

Yeah, some games weren't meant to have a multiplayer mode.

So, you are all saying a game can not have both a great single player and a great multiplayer?

I don't see why BioShock can't have both a great online and offline play. One team can focus on the story, while the second team of game makers create a successful new experiance for BioShock fans. I guess I do stand alone.

I don't think a multiplayer would benefit Bioshock 2. Imagine people running around shocking each other and freezing each other? It would get pretty boring. Also a co-op singleplayer would be horrific too.

I don't really care about having a multiplayer mode, but it would be nice to have co-op story mode so that you could experience it with a friend.

Think of it this way:

You're the developer of BioShock. A game known for it's stellar single-player experience. Your entire team worked hard on the game and focused all of their efforts into a cohesive campaign. Everyone loves it. They want you to make a sequel.

So you get your team together. You say, "Hey, guys, there was one dude in a GameSpot forum that wanted multiplayer for BioShock 2. I think there's about 7 more people worldwide that want it. We should do it!".

So half of your team gets to work on the multiplayer, the other half on the single-player.

When it's time for the release, you say to yourself: "Eh, the single player isn't as good as last time, but I bet people will play the multiplayer for at least a year!"

Your game gets mediocre reviews. People play the multiplayer for one day. The very next day, Call of Duty 6 is released.

Congrats. You just killed a franchise.

EDIT: In other words, the rule of the game is to simply play to your strengths. Unless the multiplayer can compete with the best, don't bother. Especially a game that doesn't need it.

Amen to this...Bioshock was never meant to be a MP game and any time or money that the devs spend on multi is time they could have spent making the single palyer game even better than the first (which is no small task since Bioshock was nothing short of amazing).

I'm comparing it due to the fact that COD4 has GREAT Single player and Multiplayer. IMO, I think BioShock would be great with multiplayer. The whole single player team can make the single player. While 2K can then hire a team working on multiplayer. I know that they won't be making Bioshock with multiplayer I'm just saying that it would be great with multiplayer IMO.

I 100% loved the fact there was no multiplayer, Multiplay would mess with the story line, especially if there is co-op. plus I like the fact that in a world where games that had never been multi-player are now multi-player, 2K games said no we are going to focus on the single player that way we can put all our effort into making such an amazing game!

I really hope it will be single player only. I hate how some developers add a multiplayer mode to a game which absolutely doesn't need it, just because they want to have everything aboard. (Condemned 2 for example) Bioshock was a fantastic game and one thing it definitely does not need is a multiplayer mode. It needs a good story and a creepy atmosphere nothing more.

I agree with others. I hope they don't make a multiplayer section!!

I loved bioshock becasue of its immersive, atmospheric, deep single player storyline., Multiplayer would ruin the idea behind bioshock.

It can have a multiplayer feature, it just won't seem to fit.

BioShock isn't your typical FPS -- its hard to imagine it having a multiplayer mode that makes sense or would fit the game.

Its literally like me saying say, Prince of Persia (the new one) should have a multiplayer death match mode ... :|

This is how I feel too.  There are only so many resources (employees, cash, time) a developer can commit to a game, and for Bioshock I would like them all commited to a single player experience.  Multiplayer has it's place, in games like Halo or COD, but not every game needs it.

Bioshock was a really good single player game. There is just no need for multiplayer, and tacking one on for the sake of it just feels wrong.

I don't get why some people seem to think that every game needs multiplayer, or when reviewing it they put "no multiplayer" as one of the disadvantages of the game - if it was only ever designed to be single player, then not having multiplayer isn't a disadvantage or failing of the game.

They should just focus on making a good and LONG single player. Not every game needs multiplayer. Also, multiplayer would be REALLY akward.

One of the things I liked most about Bioshock was the ability to play run-n-gun style or slow it down and sneak around a bit. Depending on my mood I could play either way. The plasmids didn't need to be balanced to make sure one wasn't WAY better than the next because each would fit a certain playing style and better at different points in the game. Multiplayer however is about balance and making sure true skill stands out more than unbalanced cheap weapons and such. And I think Bioshock trying to tweak all there weapons and plasmids to fit in a multiplayer match would ruin the fun of playing it your way instead of the 'optimal' way. Plus, other people have done it better, so why bother...
