When the game hits, it'll be running on graphics that would only have impressed in 2006, 5 year old gameplay, and without Master Chief. Plus, we have to play as one of those unlikeable Space Marines, and in stealth mode. Sure it will be a fun game and all, but where's the ambition Bungie had when they made Halo 2?Corey_Barlog_SM
Just because the graphics aren't realistic doesn't mean they're not impressive. Assuming you're talking about Halo 3's graphics will be the same in ODST. The textures and lighting are suberb and only haters would say they aren't good. The ODST's are different from those "unlikable" marines.
This game is a prequel to Halo 3 from what Bungie said.
Wrong. I don't hate Halo 3, and I never liked the graphics. The lighting wasn't impressive, especially in the wake of Bioshock, Gears, Mass Effect, Uncharted, etc. The textures were decent but not triple-A. I will bet 100 bucks that the game is no more of a graphical improvement over its predecesser than Resistance 2 was (see here: it's a friggin expansion). You also forgot to address my assertion that the gameplay is going to be 5 years old by that point, bringing nil innovation and remaining essentially unchanged since Halo 2 (no, ripping up turrets doesn't count as innovation). It also ships with the Halo 3 map packs, likely due to a short campaign. You can act like this crap isn't totally predictable, but when you're talking about the final product, games are COMPLETELY predictable because developers always repeat their mistakes. Kojima has poor comedic timing, UbiMontreal ships repetitive tech demos, Nintendo thinks 3 is a magic number, Capcom couldn't deliver a decent porno script, and Bungie puts more work into their trailers than their games' presentations. Halo 3: ODST is going to be 2009's World at War.
You're making quite a few ASSumptions without having any facts. Why don't you just be patient and wait and see what happens first before hating on a series that made it so you're even able to play games like Bioshock, Gears, Mass Effect, Uncharted, etc? I think that sounds like a much better idea. Bungie is known for developing excellent games and they're a high quality company. This is shown with the amount of support they've given the Halo franchise and Halo 3 in particular. Why do I say that you might ask? Because of the stat tracking and website integration with the game itself. This is something every developer should do for their MP shooters.Wrong. There are a lot of games be produced with poor quality and the Halo franchise is not included. Halo is designed to give the best game play with the best graphics posible. Is there better graphics? Yes, but at what cost. Companies like bungie don't sacrifice graphics for no reason. They want the gameplay online and offline to be fun. That's why when you play some games online you get glitches a lot with objects popping on and off. The devoloper pushed the graphics too far and did not do proper testing. Whether you love or hate Halo as an FPS, you can see it was quality work and that is why it has done so well in sales and it is still being played like crazy.SpikedStriderHere's the primary reason why the graphics in Halo 3 are so good and people never realize it. No slowdown and no glitches. There's an amazing amount of stuff happening on the screen during those battles and the fights flow perfectly. You can not say the same of the Gears series despite the graphics themselves being better.

so are you going to cite anything there, or make an idiot of yourself by saying what you think you know?
I know for a fact that its going to be good,i mean Halo Wars is gonna suck so bad they'll,want a good shooter.Don't worry either there will also be CoD Modern Warfare 2 next year.:roll:I mean this isn't that big of a deal any way.
This is the latest update on Halo 3 ODST. After having recently purchased a used copy of this game from the bargain bin of my local video game store, I must say that I am terribly unimpressed with this game. Although I only paid 15 dollars for this game, I was expecting so much more from Bungie than what this game delivered. I mean come on! We're talking about Bungie here, the same people that delivered the first Halo game way back in 2000 that impressed the entire gaming community with an award-winning product. How could Bungie release such a dismal video game after having such phenominal success with Halo CE on the original Xbox? For instance, the graphics are poor and not up to the same standard as other Xbox 360 triple A titles, the gameplay tactics haven't improved since the first Halo, the framerate of the action is locked at an embarassing 30 frames-per-second, the A.I. hasn't improved since the first Halo game and in fact has actually devolved, and the writing and voice work is terrible with numerous instances of awkward timing and plenty of cringe-worthy moments throughout the entire story arc. Halo 3 ODST has but one shining jewel in it's crown and that is the absolutely stellar soundtrack that accompanies the gameplay: it's very moody and atmospheric and it's the kind of music that's beter suited to a mainstream Hollywood grade B flick than a very generic and highly unimpressive shooter like Halo 3 ODST.
Let's go over my main points more precisely:
1. Poor graphics: The graphics engine appears to be inferior to the original engine used in Halo: Combat Evolved at least in one respect: there's no anti-aliasing at all! This is absolutely unacceptable for an Xbox 360 title to not have sharp graphics and to look worse than the original game that started the franchise from 9 years earlier! Without any anti-aliasing like you would find in very impressive games like Gears of War and Fight Night Round 4, it becomes hard on the eyes to play the game for an extended period of time because the individual pixels that make up the games graphics are much more pronounced and combine to create a more-or-less abstract image of the scene at hand which requires the player to almost squint his eyes at times to see the image clearly which can produce eye strain. The bottom line: 1080i graphics resolution on an Xbox 360 just looks terrible without any anti-aliasing.
2. Poor framerate: The framerate appears to be locked at 30 fps which isn't acceptable for a first-person-shooter these days. It wasn't acceptable in 2007 and it's still not acceptable now. When rapid target acquisition is of the utmost importance in a game, then 30 fps action just won't do.
3. Poor gameplay: The formula hasn't changed much since the first Halo game in the series. This is the generic formula that Bungie still uses in Halo 3 ODST: Circle the target and shoot/ lob grenade/ circle the target and shoot. There's no need to crouch behind cover because the game doesn't support that; there's no mechanic built into the game to allow you to easily stick to surfaces to provide cover for your character from enemy gunfire. Enemy hit detection is not precise enough for players who prefer to snipe their targets from a distance.
4. Terrible A.I.: Not much else needs to be said here to prove the point: Just play the game yourself and find out just how pathetic the artificial intelligence really is. I will say this however, the A.I. has actually devolved from the very first game in the series. That game (original Halo) actually had received quite a few accolades and awards from the gaming industry for implementing such clever and nonscripted A.I.
5. Horrible voice acting: I'd actually recommend this game for people that would like to get a kick out of playing a game with some of the worst dialogue writing and voice acting that the industry is capable of just so you can say you experienced it yourself! Nothing more needs to be said here except this: Bottom line, the writing for this game was done by Bungie junior staffers more than likely who had no business writing at all. These guys couldn't even put together a to-do list if their life depended on it!
6. Great soundtrack: That is strange mystery here. Why such a good soundtrack to accompany such a poor game?!? The graphics are as bad as Halo 3 and Halo 2 and certainly just as bad as Halo Reach!
The verdict for Halo 3 ODST: This game is no better than Halo Reach. Sorry to disappoint you with that one.

I don't know what's more astounding. The fact you bumped a two year old thread, or the fact you wrote so much for it.

I don't know what's more astounding. The fact you bumped a two year old thread, or the fact you wrote so much for it.
but what he wrote is a bad opinion....says the voice acting is terrible. it wasn't. says that 30fps is a poor framerate. its not (its also consistent, but going up and down all over the place like other games). "rapid target acquisition" wtf? have u tried increasing your look speed?"There's no need to crouch behind cover because the game doesn't support that; there's no mechanic built into the game to allow you to easily stick to surfaces to provide cover for your character from enemy gunfire. Enemy hit detection is not precise enough for players who prefer to snipe their targets from a distance." this is all irelevant opinion as well. many people dont about cover systems. in some games the cover system is horrible to!! ie Army of two (been playing that heaps last week).
MY base-less opinion of the bumper would be that this should have been left in blog form. Maybe try REACH? or maybe not, i dont want ur nasty opinions tarnishing any more games i like.
