Sadly because of Gamespots new review system it won't get anything higher than a 9.5. However, just because it won't get a higher score than Gears doesn't mean it won't be better than Gears.
i dunno, when you talk about games of this caliber, its going to be a person by person basis on which is better, because i believe halo will get at least above a 9, and when a game gets rated like that, its usually just a personal preference type of thing

Not question Bioshock has a great single player but what if Halo 3 provides a campaign just as good along w/ a good multiplayer? Then shouldn't it get a higher score that Bio?
I Play the BETA but is almost the same thing as HALO 2, So i think is not goin to be high as GEARS OF WAR, But i know it will be higher than HOUR OF VICTORY, LOL.
I'm sorry but the beta was not "just like halo 2" in my opinion there were very big and obvious differences in just about everything such as vehicles, weapons and the maps. The game will be fantastic and like the other guy said people will be playing it for years. I know I will be. Also like others have said the new review system is absolutely horrible as far as scores go. What if its a 9.8 caliber game does it get rounded up to a 10 or down to a 9.5? It really makes you wonder about all the other games out there like if they were rounded up or down compared to the old system.

i think everyones looking at this new review system the wrong way....you actually have to read the review not just base you game purchasing decisions off the numerical score.....anyway if halo 3 gets scored below what you expected, who cares??its not going to stop you from playing the game and its not going to stop you from thinking the game is better then gears or any other game youve ever played....

i actually prefer gs to ign foreverything gaming related including reviews and i dont think jeff sucks at reviews at all....i agree with his reviews mostly.....the only ones i remember not agreeing with were twilight princess, which should have got a 9.0, and gears which should have got a 9.3 or around there....
Yea you right, if this game don't get any higher than GEARS OF WAR, Who cares!, But i will still play this game for fun, Until a Badass game comes out on November 5 and Thats Call Of Duty 4.
I chose 'No', because I've been coming to Gamespot for quite a while and historically they do NOT grant sequels higher scores than original IP's. Originality always takes a hit (it IS a sequel afterall) and that affects the final score. But I do expect it to score well, just not anything like the 9.7 that the original scored.
its gonna get a 10, the've added a bunch of new stuff plus its still the halo we all love, and the game looks AMAZING. have u guys seen the new videos at gamersyde.com
Halo 3 isgoing tohave a lot better online play than GoW but GoW has better graphics and campaign so it will get the higher rating. i will play halo 3 longer though because of its multiplayer. They're both going to be great games.
