What my fear is, is that the nearly 2million gamers who play Halo 3 on Live stay Halo 3 rather than Recon. If recon isn't good enough im sure people will not make the switch. But im sure atleast half will get Recon and that will really hurt Halo 3 on Live (one of my favorite online experiences)
I'm excited for recon. But I'm confused. Is it seriously just a new Halo 3 campaign or something else? DLC or Disc? Is it gonna have the same engine or a different one? First or third person? cover system, vehicles, squads, what makes it Halo 3? Will it be drastically different? Will the new protagonist take off his mask? What's the 23 flavors of Dr Pepper? I just don't know!
I really don't see how they can make it play just like Halo 3. It messes up the continuity of the story. The reason Master Chief jumps so high has shields and can take so much damage is because he was in the spartan program. From what we can tell this guy is just a regular ODST soldier. They're still really tough but certainly no Spartan. I say this game HAS to play differently.
It's actually hard to call now. I'll be playing Halo 3 up until Recon's release and then stay on that most of the time, but always go back for a few matches. I think that'll be what most people end up doing.

ya ur right. everyone who is playing h3 rite now will continue, then when recon comes out they will go to that, but that does not mean the halo 3 community is ruined. it will still be continued to be played by thousands. btw does anyone know if bungie or microsoft is supposed to extend on the news about recon during the tgs. or was that it?

where on earth did you get 2 million from?
this game is coming out in 2009 and by then people will indeed want to try something new..this will not affect halo3 in the way you're making it.

From what I understand, this game will be just campaign. It's gonna be set in New Mombasa when the Prophet's ship when through the space rift and destroyed the city, and the chief chasing after him.
The ODST's are there as a recon unit to figure out what the Covenant are after, which is the Ark.
It's going to be on disc and probably released at a lower price than $60.

It's a full game, not just a campaign as you're making out to be. It'll feature a lot of the new Halo 3 innovations in the online such as an expanded forge mode and a few new additions.
It's an expansion to Halo 3. It takes place in the same universe leading up to the events of Halo 3 so it doesn't need it's own title. All the information on it can be found here www.h3recon.com and there will be a multiplayer aspect to it which is why there may be a split between the two games, but like I said before most people will just play both.
dude its still halo 3, its not a totally different game. look at the part it says new multiplayer maps, what game do you think that implies to, halo 3 ofcourse. the single player will probably only be able to be played on the new disc but i think its still uses the same engine and everything that halo 3 has, like the achievements, you know the extra 500 points that you cant get yet will come from halo recon. the multiplayer maps i think you will have to download them to your hdd so you can play it on halo3

I was sort of thinking the same thing Jkiller. Maybe the Mythic multiplayer maps will be included in this to be DL'ed to your HD. But so far i think it's all speculation, obviously.
i think its a bad idea personally and im curious to see how bungie will handle the new MP, like ranks, XP stuff like that. and will we be able to play cross verions ie Halo 3 vs Recon, or play the same custom game

Read this, it says that Halo 3: Recon will have 1000 achievement points from it's single player and will augment the Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack in it's game. That Map pack will be released early next spring which is the 500 that makes the 1750 for Halo 3. Why would the map pack come out with it's own achievements and not be ready until Halo 3: Recon later that year, sounds like bad planning and just wouldn't make sense???
