So I have an xbox 360 I got from a friend. it was rrod'd at the time and I managed to get it booting, but when he gave it to me it didn't have a disc drive. i have a halo reach game tied to my live account (games on demand) and i want to play it on this xbox since it's all i can play without a drive - does microsoft ban people for logging in without a disc drive?

There's no way to tell if a system doesn't have a disc drive. So no, you'll be ok.

Yes. You will get banned. Xbox 360 uses a number of security measures to make sure the console hasn't been tampered with. One of the MAIN red flags is if a console has a motherboard serial that does not match the serial of the disc drive. The two operate as a matched pair, and if one differs from the other, or if one is missing altogether, such as in your case, the console will be flagged to be banned during the next so-called "ban-wave". Now, there is no indication as to when these waves happen, so you could potentially be fine for any amount of time, and at the end of the day you're not out much. It won't affect your live profile in any way, just the console itself. It's basically useless now, so get some use out of it until it's gone completely, right? You can't ever fix it fully because you would need the original disc drive in order to replace it with a new drive. I won't get into why, it's beyond what you really asked. Plain and simple answer: Your system will most likely be banned, at some point.

I could've not put it better myself ...yes your will be banned ***eventually*** however being flagged does not mean ur banned on the spot but both keys needs to match and be presnet to pass microsoft security checks being the drive missing will trigger the flag 100% sure .....and yes u will need the original drive in order to be able to place that other that you want to buy its not a swaping thing......
