if I switch to a wireless adapter, will I get more lag in my games? I was plugging directly into the cable modem, before.

I was wondering if they might be coming out with a wireless-n version, too.

Wired will always be faster than wireless. Never ever have any problems with my wireless though. I use a Linksys Wireless-N.

Wow, really?

I was using a direct wired connection for about 3 years without any issues. Early last year I invested in a wireless adapter (bought a house, wireless routera few rooms away)...not a single issue or connection problem once. Maybe it depends on the distance from the wireless router? Plus, if multiple people are using your internet connection it will drastically slow down...depending on what your router supports for bandwidth.

If you have adecent internet connection (3mb down or higher) and a wireless router that pushes more than 128mb/sec (which is what I've got), plus not being too far from the router...i wouldn't imagine it causing a lot of issues.

Yes. You will have more lag/less speed when you go wireless.

Would wireless-N support require new software or new hardware (a new adapter)?

Some routers require an updated firmware...so if you were to buy one, plug it in and doesn't work you may need to search out the latest firmware version.

The wireless 360 adapter is up to snuff...no worries.

NO!!! Just because you had a bad experience you should at least give a balanced answer. Alot of things have to be factored in as to why you could have a good wireless connection or a bad one. You have to factor in the distance, type of router, other devices in the network and the security of the network.I have my 360,PS3,3laptops and an Itouch all working in perfect harmony on the same WIRELESS network. I have no problems with lag or dropped connection on either console....I play Geow2, COD4,COD5,L4D and a few more tittles I can't think of at the moment. I'm not saying that everyone will be guaranteed a perfect wireless connection but you can at least have a great one if you set it up properly.:)

I'd guess a new adapter, maybe even a new Xbox, not sure. I use a wireless-N router anyway and it works fine. My ISP gets me around 100mbs.

I'm pretty far from my router, downstairs and on the other side of the house. Still works great.

Wired isn't necessarily noticeably faster. Depending on your router/adapter/broadband connection/placement, its possible to get pretty much(+/- a miniscule amount) the same speed.

The main thing with wireless is there's a larger chance of reduced speed, depending on the factors above, but its not necessarily going to leave you with a noticeably slower connection. Wired connection is just a bit more reliable.

Nothing wrong with wireless, as long as you have a decent strength signal and its not going through 4 thick walls to reach the router, your not gonna have a problem, you wont see any lag.

It really depends on your modem (or at least in my experiences). I have a wireless HP PC right next to the wireless modem and wired connection to old Dell PC, the Dell gets the bad end in terms of lag (although minor) and a bit of slowdowns there again it's really old. I have a wireless connection with both 360 and PS3 (depending on which I play) and I don't see the types of slowdowns and stuff that may happen if I have a wired connection.

I look at the cost, cheaper to go wired than wireless, but really i don't have that far to go with my modem so i stay wired.

I have no problems. With that said yes wireless does make it one additional item for information to funnel in and out of... but... you are using a wireless controller (most of us are anyways) perhaps you should get a wired controller to maybe save .002 of a second it takes that information to leave your wireless controller? ... really thought if you are some what close to your router and getting a good signal it not a problem. I've used one for over a year now.

people saying you will lag more are wrong the 360 adapter is high quality combine that with a good router and internet and you wont have anymore problems playing only than you would wired fact.

Even if you are using a wireless adapter chances are your Internet speed will not surpass what a Wireless G device can support, so while it is true that a wired connection can transfer data faster, the speed at which wireless functions is still more than adequate for Xbox LIVE. Yes there are other factors that can hamper a wireless experience and for that a wired connection is ideal, but don't be fooled into thinking that wireless is terrible……it's just not as good.

lag isn't a very specific term I really wish people wouldn't use it.

If you mean ping, no your ping won't suffer.

If you mean bandwidth (how many MB per second) no you'll have plenty of bandwidth

If you mean packet loss, yes, yes you will have packet loss. Now how much packet loss really depends on the environment. Packet loss can randomly drop you from matches, give the host false information, or cause a wide variety of problems. The more wireless devices, and the more electronic devices around your 360, and around your modem the worse packet loss you're going to get. For example I have wireless k/m dual monitors, a cell phone, wireless phone, 500w stereo receiver, and a pc all w/ in a 5 ft range of my ps3. I normally won't make it through a match on wireless, and even get signed out of psn quiet often due to interference, and dropped packets (it's the same w/ 360, but I don't have wifi on my 360). Now some people don't have much of a problem, and ms makes sure all online games can handle a specific amount of packet loss. So if you have a good wireless connection it's not going to interfere w/ your game. Also I should say that just because you're not having problems doesn't mean that the people you're playing w/ are fine too. Dropped packets tend to affect how the other players see the player dropping packets more than the player dropping the packets.

^thx for the info. I don't have that much interference so I'll just decide when I decide whether or not to move my xbox to the other room.

wireless g gives a max speed of 54 Mbps, btw, for all those who don't know.
