The best way to figure this out is to find out who the developer is and see their track record....or just wait for the reviews after the game releases.
This is why I follow developers, I tend to get far more excited at my favorite developers new games rather than a brand. I like Mad Max, but the idea of a game doesn't excite me until I know who the devs are.
Luckily I found out ages ago that this upcoming game will be developed by the decent Avalanche Studios (mid 70s/100-low 80s/100 dev), so I think at the very worst this game will be decent at the 75/100 metacritic, which is still good for fans. I honestly think they will hit low to mid 80s though. I always look up developers for games I'm interested in.
That doesn't mean that the past dictates the future of course. It's just an indicator of what we are in for. Same kind of information is used in Sports, and other fields that require statistics.
For example a hypothetical, middling, low tier developer can skyrocket to fame at any time or trend upwards towards an amazing game, but that would be the exception, not the rule. Avalanche Studios is a mid tier dev on the rise as the title they did for SquareEnix, Just Cause 2, was pretty good 81/100 MC. Their followup title for SEGA was Renegade Ops which was in the 81/100 range.
Avalanche is a decent studio, so this game they are doing for Warner Bros. shouldn't be trash and as an added bonus, the upcoming Mad Max game will not be cross gen! Hurray! Mad Max is only for PS4/Xbone/PC, so no last gen assets and hardware holding them back. On the flipside, this title will be a 1st generation title for Avalanche so they still have years and sequels to roll out to impress us.
