Depends.

What's the resolution, refresh rate and contrast ratio of your HDTV vs. your monitor?

Then if you have a VGA cable, it's probably going to be better if it's an LCD monitor.

SDTV = 640 x 480 resolution if I remember. Even wicked cheap monitors go like 1024 x 768 or something. And computer monitors usually have a pretty good refresh rate nowadays.

Some monitors (although I doubt yours does) have resolutions of like 2600 x 1800 which is significantly greater than even 1080p (1920 x 1080 resolution) HDTVs.

Not always true. Lower quality LCD TVs put out worse contrast ratios than some cathode ray tube (CRTV) Televisions.

High end stuff like Sony, Sharp and Samsung make quality contrast LCD TVs that rival Plasma monitors.

Speaking from experience, yes. I used to play on my Dell 19" flat panel LCD monitor before I got my new TV (52" Mitsubishi LCD projection). If there's a difference, it's marginal, hardly worth mentioning. The greatest benefits are the fact that I can sit on my couch to play again, instead of my computer chair; and I can actually play with someone on the same console. Aesthetically speaking, they are practically identical. It's a matter of if you want to spend $250 opposed to $1000+. My TV was actually a wedding gift, one of the best that we received.

I too have a 17" LCD and i have used it with my 360.Mine supports 1280x1024@75Hz and I can run 720P on my xbox360.The games do look a lot better even though i have a 21" witch is just standered DEF.Even in Halo 3 some of the realy bad jagys whent away at the higher res.Your LCD should like a good brand and make it should look just as good or better than mine.I Have a "Power lab" PL-178EX wich is mad by some korean company but is has a DELL LCD in it that to got out of a nother monitor.

When money is an issue... ah... I'd say your monitor is pretty good, although you'd have to sit close and get a sound setup. Overall, compared to a middle of the road 720p, you will get on par graphical fidelity (And actually the LCD screens have a higher pixel density, that is more pixels per area on screen, so it does look smoother).

I was quite worried about such a thing to at first... but how old are you for one? Somewhere between 12 and 18 (I'm guessing here).

Ok, so say if that's true, you'd have had that LCD TV from the day you were born and only about now would you bother to replace it. In fact most LCD Tvs have a 60000 hour bulb now, which means if you use it on average, 5 hours a day 365 days a year, that means about 33 years of use. So, yea, I don't know many people that have a TV that is on the order of 20 years old they use to this date but some old poor grandparents living in a retirement home.

Don't let that stop you.
