all I know is that IGN did a cooling-fan test with the 360 reading off of the disc against it reading off of the hard drive and it was much queiter. So, i'm guessing that the 360 uses a lot less power when reading off of the HDD

no, what runs the hottest is the power supply board and the mother board if anything that spinning cd might help keep it COOLER.

if your xbox over heats in less 30 mins dont you think it be good ideal to start geting it repaired lol

and ya it will not just because of update because if u install it anything you do  where a disc is not runing you can tll the differnce  by feeling  the bottum of the xbox and puting your hand in the back of the 360 vent the temp of the air is coolor

If you can, I'd recommend taking it off any carpets, have it vertical (makes most sense TBH, more surface area for air and the underside isn't heating the ground and being re-heated), take it out of any cupboards or enclosed spaces, keep it in a cool room and generally do anything else to keep it cooler.

Don't rely on software updates to be a solution to your problems.

Ok, if you think downloading games is going to help then your pretty dumb, it wont help. I dont know bout other coolin fans but the fan called somethin like Nykio or something like that just hurts the xbox overall it makes the 360 run harder, so it counteracts everything it tries to accomplish i have a 360 with a falcon chip and i can leave it runing all day and it doesn't overheat so i have no idea maybe you have a problem with your xbox 360, maybe its broke.

having your 360 vertical or horizontal will definatly make a difference, i keep mine horizontal but if i put it vertical it overheats, this is in no way the case for everyone the person before me said to keep it vertical, just try both see which works

I suggest horizontal and I think many other people are with me. I have heard to many stories of cats, kids, whatever nocking over the 360 while a disc is spinning and it damages the disc. Too many people have damaged cd's from having them vertical.
