Will PS 'Home' be better than Xbox Live, or will MS up the ante?

I want to know what fellow Xboxers think about PS Home. Should we be worried, or does MS have another trick up their sleeve? How would you feel if Xbox Live announced something similar, would you call it copying Sony?

No reason for Xbox to do that. I think the PS home is kinda corny. Like a cheap Mii and Xbox live rip off.

you know, i was thinking about this to, but the one and most important thing ps3 is missing is ppl, even if pshome is better then live, the 360 still has way more ppl on it, and when halo 3 comes out its going to get even bigger, no one wants to play online with a small community (relative to live)

Yeah but that's not the point. Suppose PS Home takes off? XBL is the 360's strength (apart from the games and other things). If people start thinking that PS Home is better than XBL, I think MS will have a much weaker chance of winning the console race. Halo 3/Wars and the toher Halo project alone won't save it... Thoughts?

MS and their huge desire to not let Sony have very many marquee titles is what's going to save it. not to mention the total home experience that the xbox 360 really provides.

Here's what I posted yesterday on a few sites. It's just my two cents so don't be an arse and start calling me a fanboy. ...Even though I am... definately...

"Enough of the PS3 fanboyism!!! Now I want everyone in this room to sit up straight and listen carefully. This post will be fairly long and hardhitting, so if you can't stand the heat icecubes...

1) This is huuuuge. No matter how us 360 fanboys want to moan, this COULD POTENTIALLY be better than Xbox Live.

2) But Microsoft aren't stupid. They won't just sit back and let a newcomer to the online gaming space try and muscle in on their turf. MS and Sony (herewith referred to as 'The Evil One') are amongst the world's biggest corporations. As such, they always know what the other companies are up to, ESPECIALLY when they have competing products on the market. Now we already know that MS is in the process of extending their Live service to bridge the gap between the PC gaming world and the console platform. They are even targeting mobile phones. 3)Stats: MS have 6 million + users of the XBL service. Over 92% of the world's PCs run Windows OSs and, according to MS' statistics, gaming is the third most popular activity PCs are used for. How could they not see this coming?

4) There is NO WAY MS was not privy to the Evil One's plans. My guess is that the idea of PS Home was 'borrowed' (which is a trend commonly practised by the Evil One) from an idea clearly most suited for a quality, established community like XBL. 'Borrowing' in the gaming industry is the norm, especially in the Evil One's case. For example, the motion-sensor technology feature copied from the revolutionary Wii-mote and the blatant theft of the Xbox Guide button, dubbed 'Playstation Home' button (shock, horror!)Even the controller has more "trigger-like" buttons like the 360's.

5) Finally, I am sad to say that this seems to me to be nothing more than a clone or version of a service being developed already by MS and that the Evil One just beat them to market with it. I would love to think that this was an indication that the Evil One was beginning to ease it's head out of it's ass and finally buckle down to provide it's consumers with an innovative and killer service to rival it's competitors. Unfortunately, the Evil One's history doesn't quite back it up. So for me, just empty promises, smoke and mirrors again... "

No disrespect to Home or anything, but I think Sony kinda dropped the ball (again many would say). In their drive to supplant PC's, they seem to be forgetting that people buy consoles to play games, not go to a Second Life wannabe chat room and invite friends to see their wicked awesome collection of gaming paraphernalia and watch movies in a virtual theatre. I mean who wants to watch themselves watching a movie? Online play for the consoles should be all about ease-of-use, playing games and just making it as easy and hassle free as possible to find opponents, DLC and whatnot.

In the end, PC's are the best medium for chatting, and instead of competing with, consoles should offer something unique, that is still as simple as consoles themselves are.

Anyways, that's my take and your welcome to disagree...

I have a PC, dreamcast, 360, snes, atari 2600, ps2, genesis, psp, and xbox. I say that to say, If I wanted to play the "SIMS" I would buy it for my pc. Lets just say, M$ excells in software and live is a product for that. You honestly think M$ is gonna just stand still? Come on baby, this is the 360 we are talking about. At least 4 AAA games and to many damn AA games to count. PEACE................

It really doesn't matter. They decided to it their own way and let that be. Chances are you will get sick of the thing and treated as if it was some online dashboard.

First of all it's good to see SONY with a Online Service. I'm getting a PS3..soon so that's good news.

However, stating that HOME will be better then XBL is joke. Microsoft has the edge over SONY....

 1. 2 Years Experince (Good luck to SONY).

2. Windows Vista (360 and Vista easy more then 20 million peepz online all around the world)

3.  More Memory (PS3 Oblivion the donwloaded items hasl been reduced because of PS3 lack of memory)

4. 90% of 360 games are Online... (most PS3 games don't support online).

5. Great Community (everyone know PS3 fans are not a good looking =P)

My self, i'm not worried.... XBL will ALWAYS  be number  1.

All good points but there's just one problem: the Sims franchise is the best selling game for the PC! I even had my lttle spell of addiction to the damn thing. Fair enough, it might just be a mix (or 'rip-off) of popular and successful games. But surely combining such popular elemets of gaming is, apart from being a good thing for us gamers as a whole, a winning formula? So what if they stole the achievements concept from XBL. They are behind in the online world. They overlooked the importance of online play with the ps2 which is why they made that huge hole in the original version 'just in case' so that they could play catch up if the online thing took off, which it clearly did. I think, if implemented correctly, like MS did with XBL by striking the right balance of efficiency, focus on immediate gaming etc, they could really create something unique and compelling. Thoughts?

I'm not sure this is gonna work with it being free. The Sims also will be releasing a MMO game and I expect that to be subscription. So I do think this Home business wont be the great thing many people are expecting. But its nice to see Sony upping the ante coz now MS has too as well.

MS have 5 years of online experience. BTW has anyone heard about Peter Jackson's new studio Wingnut Interactive and their partnership with Microsoft Game Studios? Apparently they're working on a 'new form of interactive entertainment' that Peter J. said would fuse movies and gaming in an entirely different way. Somehow, because of Peter J's legacy with the films he makes, I sort of believe him. On the other hand I heard Sony's Phil Harrison talking about 'ushering in the age of Game 3.0' I'm wondering if this is just an industry propelled push of a new franchise 'cause the Corps' always know what the next big thing will be (Xbox project manager J Allard talking about HD being the next big thing to take off, which it was). "Game 3.0" I hate that industry jargon BS. What do you guys think?

Anything that is called 'free' in gaming is usually supported by ad revenue. There's gonna be ads galore in PS Home. A virtual Nike store? Sounds kinda cool, but, come to think of it, a VIRTUAL NIKE STORE? WTF?!
