Could become free when/soon after the Mythic maps come out in March, but it's not likely, and that's largely due to the fact that the maps have achievements tied to them.atm0073
the maps themselves dont have achievements attatched to them do they? the werent included as dlc, they were included in an update for the actual game

What I meant was that there are Achievements that can only be unlocked with the maps (i.e. there are Achievements that require you to complete certain feats on the Legendary maps only). So it's a ploy by Bungie and/or Microsoft to get people to buy the maps just so they can get the Achievements. And trust me, it does work.i hope they do because i don't see myself ever paying for themOfficialBedUnless you mind not being able to matchmake in certain playlists, then don't bother buying them. They aren't as good as you'd think. They are nice, but really not worth 800 MS points.
Now, I don't remember Bungie ever saying that the Legendary map packs will never ever be free. Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I believe their choice of words on the matter was:
"We are currently not aware of any plans to release the Legendary Maps for free."
To me, that sounds more like "Microsoft isn't telling" than never. Maybe it's foolish to have hope on this, considering that it will be close to a year since the maps have been on sale, but I would like to believe that once the Mythic Map pack (the first half anyway) comes out on the marketplace, which is some time after Halo Wars goes on sale, then we would most likely see the Legendary maps go free and finally integrate them in every playlist.
I love this game and all, but the lack of any new maps for nearly a year is a little ridiculous to me. What's even more annoying is that the six new maps have been finished for months and Microsoft's decision to drip out content is irritating. I guess we'll see what happens in a few months.
Well atleast you arent getting 3 maps for $10 and still $10 in COD4 and have them foreget about the game after a year and making you buy a new one every year. Now, I don't remember Bungie ever saying that the Legendary map packs will never ever be free. True, but the problem with Call of Duty lies with Activision, not Infinity Ward. COD4 has an amazing multiplayer and has the longevity that can rival Halo 3. The issue lies with Activision wanting to churn out sequels every year, leaving the old ones to go away. I think the CEO actually used the word "exploit" regarding annual sequels.
Honestly, I don't really like how Microsoft and Activision are handling things. I'm sure that there are lots of fantastic multiplayer games out there, but Halo and the CoD series are the only ones that I really go to and are my main reasons for getting Gold in the first place. Both handle their multiplayer content differently, Call of Duty searches for games with those that have the maps or not, and Halo puts certain playlists available with all the maps.
I enjoy the Legendary maps, I think they're much better than the Heroic map pack, but if you have been waiting this long anyway, you can probably hold out until maybe March or so. We'll see what happens with the maps.
