It looks like downloaded demos are taking up most of the memory on my 360. Once I deleted them it freed up a huge amount of space. I also went threw all my old saved games that I no longer need and deleted them as well.

I haven't used my 360 to download movies but I can imagine how much space that takes up. I keep a fairly modest library of music on my 360 but I don't believe that uses much memory for mp3s.

I'm assuming that this generation of consoles will last maybe another 4-5 years. So will we eventually need to buy more memory for our 360's before their lifespan runs out? Or will it just be a matter of organization and storage maintence to make sure that you only have saved files that you currently use?

Organization is your best bet. Manage your files correctly and you should be fine, if not - pick up an Elite.

Honestly it's like computers 3+ years ago with 20gig HD's.

I seriously don't know why consumers consistently confuse computer memory with the hard-drive when they are completely different devices.

anways....

Regarding the hard-drive...

Why do you keep your hard-drive loaded with old demos? I think its gotta be the stupidest thing to do..

If you don't play it anymore, then delete it. Its that simple.

My 360 had over 9 GB of free space. I have more than 20 videos and a LOT of game saves.

I have a bunch of XBLA games, as well as game saves on mine and still have 10gigs, so I should be fine.

I think it could already benefit from memory, but storage space, unless you're downloading movies which i find pointless on a console, you should definitely not need to upgrade to the bigger drive... if you're serious about media on your 360 just share it from your pc, i have a fairly optimum setup, my computer practicly side by side with my 360, only reason it's not actually next to it is my optical cable isn't long enough to reach my receiver but basically the monitor is between the two...a nice 22in lcd widescreen... i love using it as a monitor for both my computer and 360 (vga adapter). I actually have two NICs in my pc, the integrated and a pci card, it serves as my router/switch, and yes i do have to keep it on all the time for the functionality but who cares, it's on 24/7 downloading files anyway, i mean why else have road runner extreme if you aren't gonna download, gaming doesn't really need all that bandwidth, atleast not yet....anywho, just a bit interesting i thought i'd share my setup, as i said i share my internet through my computer and so i have media streaming from my current xp system to my 360, so basically i can play all my mp3s off my computer through my 360 as well as view my pictures and the best feature i think is streaming video, which if you really think about it, how long does it take to download a movie? a few hours..now batch render a bunch of movies into wmv9 and not only do they look as good and for free but you can watch them whenever you want...HD even, ethernet has the pipe for it....now i don't bother to do this as i can just watch them on my computer but if i had a second 360 in the house and a network, i would seriously consider this...

If 360 games move to a install style system which is possible then youll need much more harddrive space, but for the moment MS is trying to hold that off.

Its why I recently replaced my premium with an ELITE, that and the HDMI port.
