Your post isn't very clear at all so I'll respond to it as I see it. Don't get the wireless adapter unless you have to. And yes, you can get a wireless router for a PC and plug it in, but not using the USB slot. If you use a wireless router (which is probably superior to the Wireless Adapter), you will plug it into the ethernet slot in the back, not occupying any USB slots.GodLovesDead
im going to bank off what he said and say, if you don't want to run an ethernet cable through your house or room because your computer is offset in another room then the adapter is worth having, not so much worth spending the $100 it cost...been that price since launch too! its time to come down on that M$ but they love the doe so that won't happen. if you have it and have no use for it sell it to me discounted! :)
I got the wireless adapter because my xbox is in the living room and for me the $100 just wasn't that expensive. The only thing that blows is that with only one USB port on the xbox, I can't have the wireless running and have the plug and play charger plugged in. jrobinow
a $100 not a big deal to me at the end of the day but the pephiral itself is not worth that much but i wouldn't mind having it myself...but a solution to your dilenma with usb ports and money's no issue, the HD DVD does provide more if you need them,...oh, i do have that and don't have that problem.

You have made my day! I just got the 360 for Christmas and never even thought to look around for additional ports. Cheers!
you are right my mistake i wasnt clear enough what i wanted to say was. Cant i just use a pc wireless router instead of using an ethernet cable or wireless adapter ? get me ?gizmo12345
You would still have to use an ethernet cable to plug the 360 into the wireless router.

I'm not sure if Gizmo understands how this works. But yea, you'll need to plug the 360 into the wireless router using an ethernet cable. But don't worry, the wireless router can be just sitting behind the 360 using nothing but a power slot.
i have the adapter as well. It has worked great for me ever since i got it and it I think it is worth the price because...
1. The size, and the fact that it attachs itself to the xbox
2. the amount of encryption types it can handle (WPA in my case)
3. ease of use
4. the great reception i get. my wireless g router is at the other end of my house, which is fairly large, and i have never had a dropout because signal faded.
I think it is definetly a hard purchase to make because of the $100 price tag. Once you get it and use it, and see how worry free and easy it is to use you will be glad you bought it though.
my 2 cents
