If i bought the wireless network adapter would i have to get two of them if I have a regular DSL modem (as in one for the xbox and one for the modem)

No, you would need to get one wireless network adapter and one wireless router. The Linksys WRT54G is/was a popular model. It's the one I have and it works fine.
