I really sucked when I first started playing too (still do but not as much haha) but a few things that helped me;
- Learning the maps. Knowing where the hotspots are, the spots where people like to hide etc
- Learning which weapons and attachments work for you
- Headphones! I don't know if you use a headset but they've saved me a lot, being able to hear footsteps and when someone is reloading etc
- I find flak jacket invaluable, but then I mainly play Domination and grenades are flung about a lot
And I know you already mentioned it but time and practice really do make a difference. You'll learn little tips and tricks as you go and you will just get better with time. Oh and like someone else said, just have fun with it. If I'm wound up / in a bad mood and then I have bad matches and I suck even more. Don't worry about your k/d, just play for fun and you'll find you'll have better matches :)Jurassic85
Great feedback, thanks! I don't currently use headphones, just the default xbox 360 headset. Yeah, gaming is meant to be fun and that's what I'm going for. I think that the addition of stat-tracking to so many games has made people take themselves to seriously. There would be less videos of people raging on youtube over games if thy would just play for fun. To each his own.
The only thing that is annoying about k/d is that friends can see it. Oh well.
I hear you about stats. I think in some games they work nicely, it brings back that desire to beat your friends high-scores like we used to as kids, but these days stats are taken too seriously and become a way to mock other people rather than fuel friendly competition.
I have a brother-in-law who plays Black Ops too and although we're usually online at the same time, we'd never played any matches together until last night. His k/d is a lot higher than mine and it kind of intimidated me and put me off playing matches with him. Last night I spoke to him and we decided to finally play some Black Ops together, we played wager matches and I beat him every single time! It showed me that having a higher k/d doesn't make you the better player (not saying I'm a better player either!) but it lead to some playful banter so hey, if your friends can see your k/d it's not so bad, it can lead to some pretty amusing throwdowns!
