I played Oblivion awhile back, at least 10-20 hours or so. I just didn't like it very much, besides the Dark Brotherhood questline. I'm pretty interested in Fallout 3 now, and I keep getting constant recommendations for it, so I'm just wondering if I'd enjoy it or not, any thoughts?

Well, the two are similar in quite a few ways. What was it that you didn't like about Oblivion?

Well, I thought combat was overall a bit lacking(although Vats looks sweet), an your character seemed way too weak to fight,,, the main questline made you do a few annoying things and wasn't very engaging overall so I just gave it up

Ok I thought Oblivion was ridiculously BORING. But even though they are similar in some aspects Fallout 3 is way better you will definetly enjoy it.

Oblivion was the second game I purchased for my 360, because I wanted something with a long story(rpg)... I'm not a fan of the genre but I was willing to give the game a try... after a couple weeks I just sold it for Madden(which I then sold for CoD4) because it just wasn't for me... I want to play Fallout 3 but my cousin holds that game at all times, he's like gollum with that game

Does he say things like "My precious...no ones touches my precious!" and tries to tear the throat out of anyone who tries to play the game? Or walk around on all fours? Or both? That would be definitely be a sign he's become another Gollum.

Anyway, seriously. Obvilion looked good, but it wasn't to everyone's tastes. Mostly since it tended to be boring and slow paced, but it's still popular with many. I like it, but I have to admit that it did tend to get a little long in the tooth.
Fallout 3 is almost the same thing, but with differences like being set in the future of an alternate Earth where the 50s ideal of life in the US didn't exactly come to a nice end when the third world war was declared.

The game can be a little depressing, you'll find out why in some of the few intact houses you can enter, but at the same time it can grip you and keep you playing just to see what happens next or what other location you'll find.

It's got a reasonable challenge as well, the Deathclaws can be a right vicious fight. It's worth getting, though if you can try it before you buy it and see what you think, that might help.

Fallout 3 was a great game but some of the best moments I've had with it weren't in the main storyline but with the alternate quests, just like Oblivion. I'd say u can get into Fallout 3 since it is quite different from Oblivion. I personally loved both but I am a sucker for RPG games ;)

Well, the FPS combat in Fallout 3's kind of shaky, but V.A.T.S. is awesome and really makes combat enjoyable. The Fallout 3 main story's alright, but nothing special, but there's some standout moments. But, there's some pretty sweet side quests that make up for the poor main quest.

there was VATS in Oblivion? and like all RPGs your character IS WEAK when you start so you will have trouble. but oblivion does have a very complex levelling system, so if u dont maximise each level you'll find you get overwhelmed very quickly. my new char is unstoppable, doesnt even take damage at level 32

Yeah, one of the annoying things about leveling up in Oblivion, is that there are leveled monsters. So, when you get stronger so do they.

I wasn't that big of a fan of Oblivion (there's nothing wrong with the game, I just didn't think it was as good as EVERYONE told me it was) But I LOVE fallout 3, I don't own the game unfortunately but I borrowed it from a friend for a week and logged over 50 hours on that game... That was a good week :)

Personally the guns in Fallout 3 add a whole new aspect and especially the VATS system (decapitation for the win). I've only played fallout 3 for like a few hours (so don't take my advice seriously) but the world is so barren it just seems boring. In oblivion it was cool that you were in this lively world. All in all you will be alone again to traverse through miles of land. In fallout you walk super slow... which kinda sucks there's no horseback or anything.

It's a great game though and you definately could like it more than Oblivion because while it's the same there's enough different to set it apart.

I didn't like Oblivion, but really enjoyed Fallout 3. I'd really enjoyed Bethesda's previous game - Morrowind, but they made far too many mistakes with Oblivion that spoilt it. Oblivion was over simplified and the levelling system for monsters and quests was just flat out awful. A L1 character can kill a god and become champion of the arena - gaining the title of greatest fighter in the land. Tough enemies were reduced to hopelessly weak creatures all in the effort to ensure new players didn't die. Fallout made some good changes and was a much more enjoyable game for me

dude give Oblivion a break, it set the bar for next-gen RPG's it was and still is one of the best games ever IMO.

It depends; if are more of a swords and scorcerers kind of gamer when it comes to RPG games, Oblivion is te obvious choice. But Fallout 3, my personal favorite, is better if youre more of a modern and futuristic type of gamer.

I beat Oblivion to completion, well at least the main quest, though it did get repetitive and occasionally boring i did enjoy it. Fall out 3 i got fed up with because the combat seemed very lame. Enemies took too many bullets to kill and there were always too many of them, the quests weren't very engaging. They are similar games in look and feel, but they are very different too.

i bought oblivion when it first came out, put over 100 hours into it doing every quest, including shivering isles but couldnt get into Fallout 3 as much. Played through it once (the main quest at least and some side ones) but returned it after a week.

I'm tempted to try fallout but VATs looks so horribly dumb to me. I liked oblivion, but single player games are hard for me, they are just so lonely.

I rented Oblivion twice. I maybe played it for 3 hours. I just did not like that game. I've only played Fallout 3 for a couple hours, but definitely like it better. I think I'd rather run around with guns than a sword.
