Would you get the next Xbox if a constant internet connection was required?

I'd just like to hear what people are thinking about this, since there are rumors that you'll need a constant internet connection to play games (or pretty much do anything) on the next Xbox. Would it turn you off from the next Xbox if this was the case? Or would it not bother you at all?

Always online or not is not a factor for me towards whether or not I will be interested in the next xbox.

I wont get it if I have to be online to use it.. Internet goes out all the time, and when I have strict data caps and only have satelite as an option then no thanks. The majority of people still can't get fast broadband service without data restrictions and even those that have the best of the best, the service can still go down from time to time which means you won't be able to play single player games. MS would be making a bad move, I really doubt they would do it.

I honestly don't know yet. Between that and the possibility of mandatory kinect usage, I might forgo this new box for a few gens after they realize their mistakes. I just hope that I'll be able to play all my favorite 360 games on the new xbox. When the 360 came out I was still madly addicted to Halo 2 and probably would not have bought a 360 if I wouldn't have been able to play it.

I'm undecided. I'm lucky in that I have an uncapped, fairly fast and reliable net connection...so that's not really the issue. For me, they'd have to sell me the benefits. What do I get out of having a console that's always connected? What will it let me do that I can't do now? How will it make my overall gaming experience better? If they can come up with compelling reasons, I won't mind.

If it's just to 'stop piracy' it's like punishing the whole population for the misbehaviour of a minority. I don't find that to be a morally acceptable stance, and I certainly won't be prepared to pay for it.

So, I guess we'll just have to see.

Even though I don't have any issues with my internet I would have to say no....but I'm willing to bet money that it's a rumor. The thing that has me disturbed is that MS has not rushed to put out the flames on this very damaging rumor.

I'm serious though guys I just can't see them doing it....:|

I pay for my own Internet so I get what I want the majority of you are cheap asses or live with your parents if a constant Internet connection is a problem . I understand that there might be a few of you living in rural areas and Internet is not so good . That is not the case for me I do not care if it requires a constant Internet connection I am more concerned on their game selection .

If it has to constantly be online or it doesn't play. Then no I won't be buying it. If there is some kind of offline way of playing (like Steam), but it has to check in every so often. I'm fine with that. I usually sign into Live whenever my Xbox is on now.

It wouldn't exactly be a deal-breaker, but it would be a huge minus in my book, bigger then blocking used games. They'd have to nail everything else I'm looking for if they want me to buy a console that requires constant connection. The internet up here in Canada is still slow and capped...

always being always online isn't a big deal BUT don't you think you bought a product it shouldn't brick just because your internet goes out for what ever reason

I would buy it... if the PS4 also required a constant internet connection.

However, if the PS4 did not require you to always be online, and the Xbox did, then I'm switching over to Sony.

I've had times where the internet goes down for 3 days, and there's nothing I can do about it.  If I'm offline, there's no reason as to why I shouldn't be able to play single player games- I paid for them, they are mine.

Microsoft probably won't do this though, so likely won't be an issue.  I don't think they're that stupid.

Almost certainly not, but they may go for a online-once to activate it scheme, which I could live with.

While I always play online, I want to know that, if for whatever reason I won't be able to go online tomorrow, I'll still be able to play.

no, that is a really bad move considering if the kinect is built in. bunch of hackers or anybody would compromise the users privacy and humiliates them with videos.

Only if you allow that to happen, if you don't tamper with your system, it cannot get infected.

I don't know. I am connected to Xbox live majority of the time. I say majority of the time because of the location of my xbox is kinda far from my router and my signal varies from 1 bar to 3 bars and every once in a while I will be disconnected. I'd hate to be playing a game, get disconnected from Live, and not be able to continue playing my game.

I know I can move my Xbox to a different location and get a constant signal but I love were my Xbox is now, away from distractions (e.g. wife) and a place where I can unwind peacefully and get in my gaming zone.

My biggest problem is when they take the 720 serves offline. All of your games. Worthless.

Im connected almost all the time anyway and i pay for the best internet available to me where i live because i use it loads so its not a huge issue for me, but i just really dont like the idea of loosing all function from the console if for some reason my internet goes down, or if they choose to take live down for maintenance or anything like that

i think it would be a big problem for lots of people though, here in the UK speeds are generally horrible even with the best packages and almost everyone has a data cap which is often really low, around 10gb a month because it starts to get expensive after that and the average person is not willing to pay, the price of unlimited is only recently just starting to come down but it still has quite a bit to go before the average person will be willing to pay for it
