To improve the realism would you play a FPS shooter that did something harsh like reset your rank to private, locked you out for - say 24 hours - or deeply eliminated experience points? Something that makes you less willing to die? I believe that would add an exciting new dimension to a FPS making them more tactical and less run and gun. With graphics as they are and weapons modeled so well (at least in RB6V) maybe we should model gameplay the same way.snackshack
Are you serious that would suck, that would make it too tactical and mean really everyone would have to snipe or just camp. that game wouldnt make it and is the worst idea i think i have ever heard of.

that would kind of eliminate the fun then...wouldn't it? Sure it would be more tactical but, who would buy a game where everyone just sits around because they know that when they die they won't be able to play the game until tomorrow? Maybe they can just make a controller that gives you a shock....that would be interesting.

Well maybe sinceagame player doesn't have the same situational awareness they would in real life it is a little harsh to model death that way. However, I am interested in something that doesn't constantly test my twitch reflex.I hope game developers come up with something that reduces the way some players run into a room, guns a blazing, without planning or thinking about it.
Now it can't be theWORST idea you've ever heard of...

Yah LOL Electro shock therapy thats the ticket, that would be funny as hell to watch someone play! if you want to make a FPS shooter more tactical how you have to respawn on the other side of the map of where you died. what i hate about cod4 i kill someone and then they basically respawn right behind me half the time or how bout every 2 minutes your gun automatically changes and u just have to use what you get that would make it interesting
That;s an interesting question and my friends and I have talked about it over a lot of beers. The answer is always a unanimous 'no'.
No matter how 'realistic' and tactical a game might seem you can never have the situational awareness that you do in real life. It's just not possible and gaming will never be able to fully emulate it. With that being said it makes harsh respawn penalties unrealistic to implement. You will never be able to keep an eye and ear out like you should be able to so brutal respawns would only hurt the game. Besides, you would have to nerf a lot of things in games. No more jumping from a 2-3 story roof, no lightning fast sprint, no maps of the maps, etc. The weapons would also have to be more realistic too. How about jams, trajectory, windage, and more realisitc recoil or limited ammo??
In order to be fun a game has to give up some level of reality and be.......well........a game. Fun!! The key is finding the right balance between everything.

Funny you would say that.I was just at the mall about two weeks ago, and some lady stopped me and asked if i wanted to try out their FPS Gaming Vest. She explained that it had sensors and stuff in it so that when you got shot in the game, you would feel it and stuff like that. It sounded kinda cool, but i didnt try it out.
When I first played Gears of War back in Nov 2006, the "no respawn" feature caught me off guard and took a lot of getting used to. I wouldn't play any game that had a harsher penalty than "no respawns" for multiplayer.

gears of war is not a FPS, and socom for the PS is the same way its a round based MP so you have to wait until the round is over till you play again
The only way the 24hr ban would work is if it only applies to clans. There would also have to be some reward given for acheieving some plateau in the game. You could also play with your clan against others in unranked games (basically two teams could play if they are locked out for 24hrs. Would be interesting to see what clan could last the most days or matches without being locked out.
