the demo was WAY worth the downloading, the intro was the best thing I've ever seen, the water was 1000 times more realistic then any other game I've seen, electrocution and burning stuff was the best I've seen, the difficulty levels seem to be set at good standards, the lighting was eerie and usually dark which works well, there are few games that have creeped me out in the way Bioshock has and that's a HUGE understatement, the guns worked very well and didn't seem to be just an upgrade of the last, the effect of drinking too much alchohol at a time was very fun to watch (the dizzying effects work well but wear off quickly so it doesn't drag on) the dialouge for every character was very rarely heard more than once and was relevant to the state, sex, and type of splicer the people were, the hacking system is fun and is better than any other hacking minigame I've ever played (yes I have played "Ratchet and Clank" i've played nearly every game except for "size matters") the scarring that is obvious on the splicers make them look in worse condition than the crazies from Condemned, the ammount of different splicers also caught my eye, I only saw a few of about 50 enemies look the same, the fact that the enemies can have the same guns and plasmids as you is very unsettling and sets the mood even better, the part of the demo with the half of a plane crashing into the tunnel was very exciting and unexpected, the cracking effects were also realistic and the bending of metal was a nice touch, I might also note that the fish that you could find if you got to the end of the tunnel was nice and it's also fun to blast them into oblivion with electrobolt, the many effects the plasmids have is cool, such as electrobolt being able to stun regular enemies, short circuit security bots, cameras, and turrets, instantly kill any splicer to be foolish enough to step into the water, I also liked it that if you stun the enemie you could hit it and it would do much more damage than normal, I also noticed that if you were to shoot an enemie that was stunned but if the enemy was strong enough to live, the bullet would take away the electricity running through their bodies (yes it's true, saw it on Mythbusters), I also like the A.I. of the security bots, they don't get themselves broken as easily as many people think, they almost have a mind of their own, say you shoot a proximity mine on a friendly bot, the bot will then divebomb the next enemy it sees (KAMIKAZE anyone?)
I'm very surprised that they actually came out with a demo, I would never have expected it, the game itself should be very nonlinear, remember the beginning level is basically a tutorial, tutorials are not an overview of the entire game itself.
I would VERY EASILY give bioshock a 10/10. anyone who says otherwise must not have known much about the game, or they never really tried to find the stuff that may be hidden, i.e. money, adam, plasmids, fight the Big Daddies, kill the Little Sisters, save the Little Sisters, or other stuff.
